Any conceivable difference between the two? There is only a $4.00 difference in them and the DA description states it has “DA bearings” as the only difference. Worth the extra $ or just get the Ultegra?
About a 2 to 4 gram difference in weight. The DA BB
Taken from Competitive Cyclist:
“The primary change is in the bearing seals – they have a new design to reduce drag, to create smoother rotation, and to add durability”.
its $4…
why not go for the “better” one
I heard and have experienced longer life with the Ultegra. Both of my bikes came with Dura Ace BBs, and within 6 months swapped for Ultegra. Not to bash DA, perhaps they are smoother - just a little more sensitive to the elements.
I recently put in a DA bottom bracket when I was trying to track down a noise on my bike, and not only did it weigh the same as the Ultegra BB, it looked the same (aside from the part # on it) and performed the same.
The prices were close enough that I just played it safe and got the DA BB, but I wouldn’t be totally shocked to find out it’s little more than a marketing difference.
Get a King and be done with it…
In my roadie, I blew up 2 of those crappy megaexo bb’s (first drive side, replaced both and then NDS) so I replaced the third time with a DA BB.
So the next time something went, it was my frame. Stripped all the threads on the DS of teh BB shell
Take that for what you will!
That’s what I was looking for when I posted this. I’m going to pull the trigger on the Ultegra since REI carries it and I have some dividends to blow. Thanks for the input.
