Ulnar Nerve Surgery

Anyone go the Ulnar Nerve entrapment surgery? If so did it get better? How long were you out of commission?

Thanks

no idea, but I’m tagging this to hear the answer … i’m considering my options.

Are you speaking of anterior transposition of the ulnar nerve at the elbow? Have you had the nerve tests?

John

Yes it’s the moving of the nerve in the elbow region. Diagnosed with this 3 years ago and had the EMG and the needle tests done. Just had another EMG/ needle test done last week because the numbness in the hand, forearm and pain in the back of shoulder getting worse. Doctor wants me to think about surgical repair. Not a 100% guarantee of the surgery even working.

I had this surgery about two years ago. A week or two after surgery I was able to start riding my bike inside on the trainer in my sling. It took around 6 weeks to get the sling off and get the ok to start running again. swimming was 10-12 weeks later. My doctor was very adamant to let it heal for a while before the swimming, since it would be most likely to screw the porcedure up. It took a year or more to regain the feeling in my two fingers, the nerve takes a long time to heal after it has been piched like that.
I am glad I had the procedure done, my two fingers feel better than ever

It also sounds like yours is worse than mine was, my numbness and pain was confined to my hand and fingers

CJ - I don’t think anyone would guarantee you 100% but the procedure is pretty straight forward and the rehab not particularly challenging. Your surgeon, given his/her experience, would likely have the best shot at understanding the degree of nerve damage compared with results from performing this operation in others. If you’re really bothered by this, it might be worth having it done.

Thanks for the input all…

I will most likely suck it up until next August after my 100 mile trail and Ironman races. Can’t take off a few months to recover from the surgery got too much work to do.
