Ullrich Crashes

http://www.eurosport.co.uk/home/pages/v4/l2/s18/e7203/sport_lng2_spo18_evt7203_sto737555.shtml Jan Ullrich, the 1997 Tour de France winner, was injured in a freak training accident on the eve of the Tour’s start on Friday but escaped mostly unhurt. A T-Mobile team spokesman told Reuters that Ullrich crashed into his team manager Mario Kummer’s car after he was forced to brake unexpectedly.

Ullrich hit the rear windscreen, which smashed into pieces, and suffered cuts near the throat.

“I’m OK,” announced Ullrich after the incident.

T-Mobile team doctor Lothar Heinrich said: “The were only superficial and didn’t require stitches. I don’t think it will be a big handicap for Jan.”

The Tour starts with a 19-km time trial between Fromentine and Noirmoutier on Saturday.

OUCH !

Good…at the eve of the Tour

Armstrong 1

Ullrich 1

now they can race

reading the comments of Jalabert re Armstrong, and I have the impression that unless a fantastic Jan comes out, one who races well, tactically very well, Lance will destroy the race…

Jalabert was saying that Lance looks really relaxed like him when he announced his retirement and went on to do a great Tour with a polka dot jersey, stage wins, and long mountain breakaways…he said

“ils dont devoir se le farcir une fois de plus” meaning “they are going to have to deal with him once more” but dealing being more like “tough s…t dealing with him”…

I think JaJa is right. Then again, I’m always wrong.

question for you as I think Jaja was racing with CSC still when they started on cervelos…
is he as much a nice guy as he seems to be? never heard one bad thing about him…very unassuming and super friendly…frenchies always talked about Virenque and I always thought that jaja was a much better rider and a much nicer bloke. (I think I am answering my question… )

His last Tour was 2002 and we started in 2003. Of course there was teh Look P3 incident but we had nothing to do with that. So I have actually never talked to him, the only interaction I’ve ever had was when I was at the Dauphine-Libere in 2003, he was on a French TV commentary motorcycle and he rode beside our team car to talk to Bjarne. He was talking to him about how much he was riding, etc, etc, seemed very nice. Then when I took a picture of him on the motorcycle he politely nodded and smiled, but I don’t think he had any idea who I was. I believe he has a bike shop now and even sells Cervelo, not that he really needs to work anymore.

yes, i then remembered not ever seeing Jaja on a cervelo besides his ‘Look’ TT bike and the now infamous horizontal dropouts…was watching it and talking in front of the TV…‘horizontal dropouts!!!’

as for him not needing to work…indeed…his contract with Once was around 1.5million euros a year I believe…10M Francs?

is he as much a nice guy as he seems to be?<<

The guys I’ve gone to the Tour with the last two years (Neil Stephens, Patrick Jonker) know Jaja and say, yes, he’s one of the nice guys.

clm

I beleive he works part time for Look, in a PR job.

His last Tour was 2002 and we started in 2003. Of course there was teh Look P3 incident but we had nothing to do with that. So I have actually never talked to him, the only interaction.

You have probably met his younger brother Niolas Jalabet who was still on Team CSC in 2003 until Tyler brought Nicolas with him to Phonak in 2004?

That’s true, and I have met his younger brother.

yes, well, we’ve all seen your ‘wrongness’ about bikes…

Was Ullrich once a triathlete? He apparently has the requisite bike handling skills.

yeah right…

but he was selected after a run test in the ex east german sport selection system
.

Ullrich was also on the podium at Cyclocross Worlds as a junior…

Try doing that with no bike handling skills…

.

I didn’t know that…but indeed…LOL…A triathlon-cyclocross would be hillarious
