For the UK folks out there – has anyone done the Longest Day out of Wolverhampton? Opinions?
only heard good things about it from fellow forum members on www.tritalk.co.uk
( kinda of the uk version of slowtwitch if I may be so bold )
.
for my sins I have done the Longest Day four times, fantastic race which is well run, the swim in Gailey Reservoir is not the best but it is Britain, the bike leg is undulating but reasonably fast depending on the weather whilst the run is on a disused railway line, and leads to relatively quick times.
I used it as the first IM distance races I did, may do it as my third in 6 weeks this year depending how he legs survive grotty and Roth
where are you staying in Roth?
cheers
haven’t been able to sort anything yet, have had nothing back from the links on the web site?
i got stuff back, problem is the start and finish are apart and getting from two, dont know what to do.

What is it about the swim? Is it cold, murky, multiple laps? I have been thinking about signing up for this as a bargain alternative to the UKIM, with less crowds too.
On the subject of crowds, how lonely does it get out there with only a couple of hundred people racing? While I think that the HIMUK was pretty crowded, it was nice to have all those people around so that I could pretend I was racing.
Thanks

I have swum in the lake for the oly race and it was v. murky, we were also told that the lake had not done to well in recent water purity tests and we could not race if we wanted. There was some fluffy scum type stuff by the entry slope, I just went along one of the jettys to avoid the scum and got in. No ill effects since ( unless you count the glowing in the dark as a problem )
