UK gearmuncher - Bikesport US trip - major thanks to Tom D, Mike O, the boys at Bikesport, Mario, wantstoridefast, Frank@ Renn, Jim, Superdave, jkallen13, the list was endless

Tom D put a work rate into my situation that was absolutely phenominal. He spent hours thinking and tinkering over my bike fit and gave us nothing but star treatment for 3 days. Having him and John Cobb work in tandem with my fit situation has made my year. The twitchers on this forum didn’t see everything that went on with this but I was blown away by the effort put in. I cannot rate my time with Tom highly enough and learnt so much just by watching how he works. I have to get back to Bikesport when finances allow for another machine. Where I stood, we were treated like we were the most important thing in the sport.

Mike O picked us up from the airport, helped on my bike fit, gave up a fair portion of his Fathers day to look after Julian and myself, packed our bikes and not so much as frowned when he and Tom D stayed until 3am to sort me out. He was awesome.

wantstoridefast let me ride in his TT, got us some jerseys (what you need is at the shop Ben) and gave me a great racing experience. The guys in his club were mega friendly as well and made us feel at home.

Mario allowed me to destroy a mexican meal last night by keeping my nacho intake HIGH. He looked after us in Tom’s shop and made sure we maximised our time there. Top guy with an eye for a nice bike.

Julian shephered me around travelling when i had no common sense and just drove me back to work at high speed to get me to university in time for a meeting. He’s shattered now but bound to be posting soon.

Jim made me smile non stop and reminded me constantly why I do this sport. Nice bike too and a perfect attitude to everything. He was cool to hang out with.

Frank got me a disc at rediculously short notice and when it looked like it wasn’t going to happen he still pulled it off. What a great well made product.

Superdave would have been cool to race against at the TT but you can tell by his legs just how awesome a rider he is. Julian and Mario went to watch him race in a crit and he was doing some serious pulling despite a crash he had not too long before. A real knowledgeable guy.

We’ll be back. If you haven’t talked tri with Tom and the guys and had a fit done then you are missing out big style. I flew across the atlantic for this for just 2 days and had one of my best breaks ever.

Bryce.

This one is staying bumped for a while. Credit needs to be given to some good people.

Some of us (well, me) watched the posts on this over the weekend, and vicariously enjoyed the process. It did sound like fun, and that you were being well served. I can’t wait till I can make it up there for something (hopefully) similar.

Go as soon as you can. It’s the best investment you’ll ever make next to training.

Bryce I still think this would have worked.

I know but the concrete bench attached to my left foot may have slowed me down a little !!!

Dude, somebody is going to look at that photo and think it is for real…

We should have put you on a 48cm frame so there was no doubt. Awesome.

Bryce,

Thank you for your kind words. It was a pleasure to meet you and Julian and a plus to have some fun together, the time trial.

Many times I have heard or read questions about whether a fit or proper fit is really worth the money. I would hope some would be able to interpret from the expense of your trip that for those of us who live a “little” closer, your words couldn’t be more spot on, “Tom D put a work rate into my situation that was absolutely phenominal. He spent hours thinking and tinkering over my bike fit and gave us nothing but star treatment for 3 days. Having him and John Cobb work in tandem with my fit situation has made my year. The twitchers on this forum didn’t see everything that went on with this but I was blown away by the effort put in. I cannot rate my time with Tom highly enough…”

It is apparent to me that you understand the value of this service and how it can be the least expensive and most effective means of maximizing our enjoyment and effectiveness in competition.

I hope to see you again when you return.

Looking at your kit do you ride with Andy Blow or Phil Mosely?

Sounds like you both had a ball - I have been thinking of going to Manchester for an F.is.t Fitting and thought that was a long way to go!

Hi Guys, I only just got my laptop back from PC World to have that damn Derbiz spyware removed, hence not posting earlier.

I would just like to echo how great it was to meet Ben, Jim, Peter (Bigsky17), SuperDAve and all the Saddlemen over the weekend. Tom and Mike O worked tirelessly to get Bryce tweaked to an optimal position on his ride, and it seems to have paid dividends baesd on the PATT, this Wednesday sees him on our local 1o mile TT, so direct comparisions can be made.

Everyone we met was so friendly and helpful that a return visit is definitely on the cards, maybe even for the Steelhead 2006.

Hey Bryce and Julian… You guys making any progress on my request…

While you Brits are at it, you can round up Elizabeth Hurley and Posh Spice for me. I’d even settle for Sporty Spice.

Get in line pal… It starts back there…

Sorry, Tom. I’m teaching Cate to make proper Quesadillas just now! Get back to you later.

Man, you got a great worker, and a gentleman to boot, the day you put Mike O on the books! Extend our thanks to him, please.

Hey Duke Sporty is looking pretty hot of late. But my personal preference is for Scary, one hot bod! I’m kind od surprised that Fulla hasn’t put in a request for an English hottie, not like the boy at all!

Reply to: “Get in line pal… It starts back there …”

Don’t get your panties in a bunch. We’ll just split the British lasses up: you take the fat ones, I’ll take the skinny and normal-sized ones.

Fair enough.

Neither. Phil Mosely has moved to the swim-bike-run store for sponsorship, Andy Blow now runs his own V02 company whom he races under.

My situation is a little more complex. I race tri for our team sponsored by DeSoto managed by my coach and I bike race (TT) for Primera who have been supportive to me for a number of years.

I sent you an e-mail Tom but I don’t know if it was the right address !!! Can you check ?

By the way Kate might be busy maybe I can recommend something else ? Next time I’ll bring over some English triathlete ladies. You’d get the full deal that way !!

Gearmuncher…threads like this really wakes me up, you see I only live 15 minutes away from Bikesport and I visit them at least once a week just to the shoot the bull (by the way Tom…where’s my bike dude, lol). Last summer when I was getting ready for IMLP Tom said “Dude, you’re in here so much I should just give you a time card!” The guys are great and sometimes I think those of us that live in the Detroit - Metro area don’t realize how lucky we are to have such a top notch shop in our area. Thanks Tom and the boys at BIkesport.
