I am in the middle of finishing my install of DI/UI2 on my speed concept and the brake/shifter combo does not work, but the bar ends shift fine. Do I just need to reprogram the set up so it knows that there are two sets of shifters. I have it set up like this. Thanks for any help.
Don’t know about reprogramming, but first thing I’d do is verify every connection is, in fact, connected. That last fraction of a mm before the plugs fully seat can be hard to come by sometimes.
yup, I just needed to do this… and needed to have the shop update the firmware so that it would recognize the brake/shifters and 5-port.
Thanks again for the help. I guess I will be taking it in or buying the programing cable.

Assuming you have the internal battery and the sm-bcr2 charger, you can use the shimano e-tube project software for programming/diagnostics yourself.

Programming and updating yes, diagnostics no.
Diagnostics only via the SM-PCE, IIRC.

Meant to say firmware upgrade in lieu of diagnostics. Need more coffee. …
What diagnostic capabilities do you loose with the BCD-2 over the SM-PCE?
Pretty much how it sounds… the diagnostic mode checks each system component for proper operation. Presumably, it’s helpful for isolating the problem, if a problem exists.
I have a fast draining battery (like, complete discharge of a fully charged battery in around 7 to 10 days/4 or 5 trainer rides) on my road bike, and so far the diagnostic mode has been no help in identifying why. It shows all components are functioning properly.
Thanks for all the input. I got the software/cable and did the update. All works great now.

Internal or external battery?
External
.
the only 2 failures i have seen on ui2 have been external battery mounts, one had the symptoms of short battery life
.

And this is why I am concerned about electronic shifting…
I’m hoping my LBS has a programmer and IT support so I can go for a ride on Sunday.
I understand that when everything is working great, it’s fantastic. But when it’s not, it sounds like it’s out of my hands. Fortunately, my daughter is taking computer science.
