Yeah, I agree. It’s a really bad shirt, and usually I love race shirts. I walked down the stairs at the airport last night, and the first thing my fiancee said to me was, “That’s an ugly colored shirt.”

No. The 2005 NYC Triathlon produced the ugliest ever. Fire engine red cotton t-shirt, covered with huge logos for New York’s bid for the 2012 Olympics. The olympic bid was rejected either a week before or a week after the tri, thus rendering the shirt pathetic in addition to ugly. It is one of two shirts out of about 50 that I have never worn in public.
They make great nightie shirts for my daughter. She loves each shirt I get her.

i nominate the '05 honolulu marathon shirt. pukey orange. i use it to clean my chain.
A small race I did last year had flourescent yellow shirts. The logo was cool, and if it was 1989 it would have been a totally bitchin’ shirt…but not in 2005.
I’m continually surprised at how poor the quality of IMNA products are. Outside of the “race experiance” it seems that most everything kinda sucks. I think they do an outstanding job with the race itself but alot of the ancellaries are pretty lackluster. It woudl seem to me that alot of these things could be rectified for little or no cost. How much does it cost to hire a graphic designer to design a decent shirt?
Small list…
1.)New Web site…Crashes first race. The old one wasn’t that great either.
2.)T-shirt’s. Pretty much every IM T-shirt I’ve seen has been lack luster and many downright fugly.
3.) Carbo dinners, first they aren’t that great to begin with, then they’re expensive for anyone but the athete’s.
4) CD/DVD. Although I’m very impressed they put these things out over night it seems they are very very short. Not really a complaint as I think the CD’s are good, just that they could be better, possibly alot better.

I’m thinking of having one of those “T-shirt” quilts made. Between my wife and I we’ve got WAY to many T-shirts. The quilt idea seemed like an alternative to rags…or in some cases actually wearing them.

I actually kind of like the really ugly race t-shirts. There’s a certain charm to them when they’re unafraid to be obnoxious.

I think they purposely make them ugly to drive sales at the ECM store. For years the Gulf Coast Triathlon had the butt-ugliest shirts I’ve ever seen. IMF in 2003 had a pretty decent shirt. IMCDA last year was lackluster. And I think they should do away with the huge “FINISHER” on the shirt.
Isn’t not any uglier than my race…(and a lot of others) so it is appropriate!

It would cost a whopping $1/shirt more to provide a wicking/athletic shirt…
I love that shirt. It’s red, obnoxious and unlike anything else I own. You’ve just got to learn to love the ugly.

Nike “You’re the run I want” shirt.
Flouro yellow with your race number printed on the front in bold letters across the chest. Then down by the hip, a place for you to add your name, race location (they had several) and finish time, in permanent marker.
The ONLY saving grace was that they were Nike Dri Fit shirts that are awesome to run in. The crew neck collar is a bit tight for my liking. I wear mine in training and see tons of them around. (There were 10,000 entered in the Auckland race) but it’s embarrassing to wear. I always say “ugly shirt” when I pass someone else wearing theirs and chuckle with them.
