Interesting banter during one of the prelim fights last night. UFC announcer Paul Felder talking about doing an Ironman. Also mentioned Lionel Sanders and what a badass he is. I thought maybe he was from Canada but looked it up and he’s from Philly. Was fun seeing my two favorite sports collide.

If only McGregor would do a triathlon. I’d love to do that one.
Jimmie Johnson (among other racers) have done many triathlons and Jimmie’s foundation sponsored a few for a while.
Bit I agree, I enjoy seeing the crossover and if I knew one of them were racing - I’d try to be there.
I had planned to race one of Jimmie’s races a few years ago and at the time we were the same age group. How cool would it be to say “I raced Jimmie and won”.

My 2 favorite sports as well
It was cool
If by crossover you mean that it is a full on fistfight in the water, tipping bikes over is legal, and the run is literally just around a track with fighting allowed at any time (lapped or lapping), then yes, I would pay all my money to watch that.
That wasn’t the first time Lionel was mentioned in UFC banter…may have been the same announcer (??) a couple weeks ago discussing a certain fighter’s cardio workouts and said something along the lines of, “he’s in great shape but he’s no Lionel Sanders”. Sounds like someone is a fan.

I train Muay Thai and when in shape I’m generally the fittest in the gym even among the fighters. They respect my endurance game, but fighting is largely won on good technical skills. Striking as well as BJJ is very technical. Endurance matters though, especially for 5 round championship bouts.
They know Lionel has super endurance - triathletes are somewhat respected by the MMA community just for the sole reason that the training habits are super time consuming, just like MMA.
Fighting got me into running, and eventually chasing my Ironman dream.
Ive always been a huge fan of the Diaz brothers whom are into triathlon in a huge way and great me interested, (check them out, you’ll be a fan for life)
Their cardio levels are scary. Nick finished 11:35 in his first Ironman.

And not many people can say that, IIRC he is not slow.

He’s not and he’s faster now than he was back then. Now I’d say - I raced him and lost :(, but would still be really fun to do.
He also said Rakic should get up from his dominant position and finish Smith with leg kicks…something that made no sense!
Great idea. You should also be allowed certain weapons or tools on your bike, like dumping a bucket of nails off the back.

If Connor McGregor gets involved, it will probably be settled with chairs.
Did you ever see McGregor’s bicycle? That thing was sweet looking! Also funny to see 404s and Sram red with flat pedals. (but he had a good reason!)

I am 6 feet and race weight is about 151. Where is the crossover of the 2 sports. They are both hard?
(I actually think you are right about this, announcer comments are far more scripted that people think.)
Wonder if the 2 share a sponsor?

Now that JJ is just 10 races away from retirement, i would expect him to try IM fairly soon. I can see him continuing his tri training to stay in shape.

Custom bike from 51 Bikes in Ireland. Those fellas make some nice bikes-they’ve made two complete custom jobs for a local shop owner that’s a retired pro-1st one was ‘tribute’ to his first WT team and 2nd was spring classics tribute since he was a classics rider.

Yeah, I’m sure the professional fighter has no idea what he’s talking about.

I’m guessing your right. He did the Boston Marathon last year (or 2 years ago) and crushed it for a 40+ age grouper, He does a lot of century rides so it does seem to be a logical “check the box”. My guess would be Kona.
I’ve love to see him show up at Fly-by-Night Duathlon at Watkins Glen (a track he never won at) but I’m guessing that’s not “good time management” for him.
