TYR Orion Goggles - First look - SWEET!

I was at the Multi-Sport Expo today checking out the new swag, and one booth had a ridiculous sale on the Tyr Nest Pros which I LOVE! They fit my face great, I almost don’t need straps they fit so well, and the vision through them is great. It has been wonderful since I have found them and not to have either the raccoon eyes from having to crank down the straps on some of the other googles, or the leaking in between the lenses that I encountered with the brand I used to use… They fit well, but having a bubble of water in between two lens layers you can’t get rid of (or didn’t notice until after exiting transition basically sucks…

So anyways… I am about to scoop up two pairs of Nest Pros for $15 a pair, which is a killer deal since they were the mirrored ones as well, when I look next door an their is Tyr set up. At first I thought it was all part of the same booth, but this was a Tyr rep showing of some of the recently released or up coming gear…

And I am looking and there is a cool new pair of the Tyr Orions and they looked seriously great… So I try them on… as much as I love the fit of the Nest Pros, these were even better. Stayed on my face with no strap for almost 10 minutes while I was talking to the rep… Would have been longer too, I decide they just weren’t coming off until I took them off.

EXTREMELY comfortable… The gasket is the perfect softness to hold suction and maintain shape, and the vision… The larger lenses are extremely clear and feels like my field of view is doubled of that of the Nest Pro… Which I wound up putting back on the rack… killer deal or not…

Seriously sold on the Orions… Now I have to wait a month or so for these to be released. But get me in line…

As well… The Convoy line of bags… I lusted after those when Tyr started releasing the marketing material… In person. INCREDIBLE… All of them.

You had a conversation with a person for ten minutes while wearing swim goggles pressed to your face?

Video or it didn’t happen.

Hah. This thread is the first result when I search for ‘Tyr Orion’ on Google. Too funny!

I found pics at the bottom of this linky. 'Em things are HUGE!

I’m sorry not to get as excited by them as you - I swear by Tyr, but my favorites are the tiny Tracers

LOL… What a hater… I hear a bet coming on. How about $5K. I need new bike equipment.

I just did the same think my my Tyr Nest Pros.

– Goggles pressed to face - no strap.
– To simulate talking counted over and over to 100.
– Timed with the clock over my stove.
– To increase the test… Did some serious chewing with some salt water taffy as well as walking around, shaking my head forward and back to the point the straps would bang under my chin and on top of my head, and also twisted my head back and forth so straps went ear to ear.

I god bored after 11 minutes and had to PULL off the Nest Pros…

Just because you have crappy fitting goggles, don’t blame me…

Had not seen that link… Those do look bigger than the ones I wore… Those look more like diving goggles! Maybe Tyr changed them since that was Jan. I would say they were about 50% larger lenses than the Nest Pro, and the other part I liked is it seemed like it was more lens/less frame.

I got a pair and admit they feel great, and the vision is super. However, I can’t get them to stop leaking. What am I doing wrong? Any thoughts?

I think Dave’s disbelief was not that they could stay on your face for ten minutes; rather, that you talked to someone for ten minutes with goggles stuck to your face.

They might not fit your face.

Maybe it is the shape of your eye sockets, general curvature, etc., but like so many other things in this world, fit matters and it does not matter how great a product is, but if it does not fit right, you are better off with either a different model or different brand.

Took me several years to find the right goggles. Started off with Speedo and Tyr, can’t tell you the models because I don’t remember, but I can tell you the Speedo with the adjustable plastic nose clip bothered the heck out of me and dug into my nose no matter now I cut it down.

I had a decent fit with the BlueSeventy for awhile. I loved the Hydra Vision goggles until the lenses started separating on me… I would get water in between the lens surfaces and you pretty much had no vision or distorted vision in that eye. Had it happen on two pairs within two months and one was my Timberman race. Sort of sucks when you have exit transition… are warming up… Think you are just clearing some fogging and the realize you have a water bubble trapped in the middle of the lens surfaces.

I went back to the Tyr rep I had talked to at Quassy who was saying I should try out the Nest Pros and they might work for my face, I had forgotten their name, they reminded me, and I have been wearing them since. Again for me, their may by more hydrodynamic goggles, some with a shallower face surface or what ever, but the Nest Pro I can pretty much press to my face and they will stay on without needing the straps. No more raccoon eyes for me, or headaches where in earlier goggles to get a seal, I needed a tight strap.

Orions for me were like the Nest Pro but with a slightly larger and softer gasket surface for the face, so for me, it was even a better seal.

Defects happen. Maybe you got a pair that was not molded properly. If you like the features, try another pair and see if you just got a lemon, and if the second pair doesn’t work, then they really just probably don’t fit your face. I have that with most Speedo ones, I have to really tighten the strap to the point of after 1000 yrds I need a break from wearing then or I have too much discomfort. It is not really anything against Speedo, just the ones I have tried don’t fit my face, and for others maybe they have to crank the straps on the Nest Pros, etc.

The way I judge goggles is I make sure that I have my hair out of the way, and I press them up to my eyes lightly with dry gaskets so I get a tiny bit of a vacuum seal forming and then wait and move around a little. Most goggles for me start falling off within 15 - 30 seconds. The Nest Pros and Orions for me can sit there to the point where I can even start lightly pulling the strap away from my face and they will still stay on.

LOL. Yeah… I can read that as well on second read.

In the end I have no shame. I can lose myself in conversation and not uncommon for a quick swinging by to pick up a few things turns into a 30+ minute conversation. Cycling shoes are the worst for me… I try and walk around or keep them on for 20 minutes when I am deciding between 2 pairs.
