That’s Saint Lance to you sunshine! ![]()
Imagine that you were arrested for possession of pot, lost the trial and did your time and were clean thereafter. Then, your dealer got busted and, unhappily, your name appeared on a list of his clients. So, you got popped a second time.
That is sort of what happened to Tyler. Others who got caught have done their time and returned to the sport. For some reason some people think that having one’s name on their dealers’ records is some sort of second crime. It’s not. It’s just part of the same thing he got popped for in the first place.
What was the question again?
The Tour de France is the greatest sporting event in the history of ever. And the riders are - shock! - using performance enhancing drugs. Here is something you should be aware of: the top competitors in every sport where there is money to be made are using performance enhancing drugs. From baseball to road running to chess to waterskiing, every sport has a drug problem. Just thought you might like to know.

I guess that sort of depends on what dates are next to your name in the records =)
.
No. Just pointing out that most people who were following back in the latter stages of the Lemond era watched the whole Peleton get faster and faster for no “apparent” reason. They haven’t gotten slower again, so there isn’t any reason to suspect the doping has stopped.
Chris
Maybe aero frames and wheels are taking up the slack of the reduced doping…
or maybe thats wishful thinking =)
I’m with you man. I will try to believe.
Chris
What drugs do I use to get better at chess?
Ritalin. That’s actually the truth, I read an article about it a year or so ago. Which just gets back to what I always say which is that every sport is full of doping. Cycling makes the media very little money and cycling actually does a very good job of testing (especially compared to other sports) so the media uses cycling as it’s whipping boy even though it’s probably cleaner (do to all of the testing) then most sports. Of course we will never know since no other sport tests like cycling does.

From the Gazzetta Dello Sport: Riders to volunteer to fines for doping
In pratica ogni corridore dovrà comunicare in anticipo tutti i suoi spostamenti all’Uci.
I am NOT pro drugs, but I really do not see the big deal with blood packing. Just let them do it. Make sure that everyone tests below dangerous levels. It will level the playing field.
i think a lot of peoples problem with tyler is that he still says he is innocent.
o
You’re probably right. But, the two year sentence is the same whether you admit it or not. And once he’s done the time, his right to compete should not be affected by whether he fessed up. Of course, people can have their personal opinions about him given his failure to confess. But, the rules don’t draw that distinction.

Oddly, after months of rejecting the notion of drug testing on the PGA tour, today the commissioner has agreed to group together with the other major tours and start investigating the process… Probably had nothing to do with Tiger on Sunday in the red Nike shirt. That formerly skinny dude is huge. I’m not sayin’, I’m just sayin’…
Brad
Shouldn’t Tyler have to give back his gold medal?
Thats the bottom line, assuming any test can be accurate to make all things equal.
Why do we need all things equal?
And whats wrong with everyone just using what they are born with? So the times may slow down
at the TDF, but seems you could still have the excitement of folks going head to head.
Dave
Caffeine can improve cognition and/or memory also, I wonder if Ritalin is any more effective than that.
Its interesting what drugs we accept and which we don’t. Caffeine, no problem! Other drugs which are essentially the same thing makes you a SPEED ADDICT OMG

From what I remember of the article Ritalin improves focus, so if you have ADD (which I think 99% of those who say they have it do not, they just need an excuse) it helps to focus less on the “everything” picture , but if you don’t have it it makes your focus become razor sharp. Pretty funny episode of the Simpsons when Bart get’s put on it (they don’t use the same name obviously).
Yea, like alcohol is not a drug, and if you are DUI and kill someone it is not first degree murder.

How many Golfers are suspended for doping that we know of? How many professional race car drivers are also suspended for doping? The reason why I ask is that those federations have done a good job not getting into the doping scandals in order to retain HUGE sponsor money. Did Tiger get huge? Yes he looks huge, would he or other players benefit for additional strength to drive the ball? Yes …
you can legally take beta blockers if you are chess athlete - it’s on the acceptable list. Also, interestingly, alcohol is a legal substance for billiards…or more accurately, chess has a banned substance exception for beta blockers and billiards has a banned substance exception for alcohol.
if only use of a stimulant was my main obstacle to becoming a chess champion…
