Tube Stem Lenghts for Hed Jet Wheels

Looking forward to getting my new Jet 6 and Jet Disc. Want to buy some new laytex tubes from PBK. What stem lengths are people using for the Jet 6 and Disc? What is the Hed valve extender like? And do the Michelins have removable valve cores?

Thanks

The easiest for the Jet 6 is to get an 80mm valve stem (longest). It’s just a lot easier to deal with pressure with there is a real live valve out to interact with rather than a hollow tube. The disc on the the other hand needs a short valve so that it stays “in the window”. I think that’s the best way to set it up at home - then on race day you should take short valve tubes (cheaper) and valve extenders as you never know which wheel will flat.

I do like the valve extenders (Continental makes a good one too) where the valve core gets removed, then replaced in the new longer valve. There are complications with this too as not ever tube you buy has a removable valve. The simple “straws” are okay but you should open the valve and then twist it open hard so it sticks then use some teflon tape around the threads so you can get an accurate reading from you gauge.
