TTX Seatpost Issues

Evening all, looking for advice/opinion

I own a Trek Equinox TTX 9.5, '08 model. Bought one year ago exactly.

The seat post has been slipping the past few months. Its never really bothered me, until readjusting it frequently meant the seat post bolt eventually ground out.

So, i paid for a new seat post binder/mechanism

Which didn’t resolve the issue.

My LBS then proceeded to loctite the seat post, which did resolve the issue, but now i have a seat post i simply can’t adjust, or might break the loctite bond at any time and slip again.

The LBS has been great, and said if it slips again that they would make a claim for me with Trek. (Trek has a lifetime frame warranty)

Should i be asking them to make a claim for me anyway?

Advice, my sage slowtwitchers…

Hairspray. Aqua Net Super duper heavy hold. Spray that sucker down and re-insert it.

That’s a shame your Trek dealer did that. I had the same 08 with the same problem. I used the same thing I use on all carbon parts: toothpaste. Not the gel kind, but the old school type paste that is very coarse, plus it smells nice! I find it doesn’t wear away like FSA carbon paste did, lasts forever. I use Sensodyne!

Have already bought fiber grip for the seat post, which did absolutely nothing…

Does no one else see the irony in having to use bathroom items to secure a seat post which should be staying put in the first place?

Had the same bike / same issue. I live in Austin, TX, so I thought, I’ll take it to Lance’s shop. Surely they will do me a solid and help me out. By the way, my seatpost slippage occurred DURING the Austin 70.3 in 2009!!! The folks at Lance’s shop tried all the things mentioned in your post They even put some of the grippy paper that skateboarders use to give them traction. I made them contact the local Trek rep. I contacted Trek myself. They claimed it wasn’t a frame issue so we can’t replace. Well great, so what do I do with a seatpost that slips at critical times. Nobody stepped up to help. So, I donated the bike to a local charity and bought a Cervelo P2 and vowed never to buy a Trek again.

Best,
Doug

I had the same problem also. I put a pc of friction tape on the metal wedge pc where it makes contact with the seat post. Stuck it on and trimmed with a razor blade so it’s flush all around. Never had a problem after that.

If the bike is covered under warranty replacement and that replacement is a Speed Concept, I’d investigate further. Don’t for a fact that it is but I thought Trek was done making TTX’s…
