Assuming I can get a good fit with both, is there any reason to prefer one to the other?

From the bioracer site:
"Every serious racer knows which cycling apparel brand has won the most time trial medals since July 2012. "

I guess I’m not very serious. I didn’t know that.

i know right? for example i though BW and TM used SMART suits (the ones drag2zero sells), so that would have been my answer.

but according to the “we noticed” this week they use Lexxi suits, which, confusingly, are also made by a company called SMART. but not the drag2zero one.

Is my math correct…. a Lexxi aerosmartsuit costs US $1,873….???

Yep. Before booties and gloves.

The Bioracer looks cooler with the textured arms and shoulders and you would think that you would want to change fabric texture on certain parts of the body. I would guess that the biggest issue is whether or not one or the other fits better (I.e., no wrinkles). The BodyPaint suits seem to work well on quite a few people. I would probably pick that one over the LG.

I had the worst race of my life in a brand new Bodypaint skinsuit on a horribly muggy morning at our state TT championship this year. I learned from that experience that aerodynamics need to be a secondary consideration to being able to let your body’s evaporational cooling processes do their thing when conditions require it. I was suffocating in that gawdawful thing.

Interesting. I’ve worn my body paint in the kona heat and humidity and I found it to be quite cool (but these were training rides, nothing near 40k TT effort)

Tony Martin used Bioracer for at least some of his victories. Team Sky’s “Rapha” suits are also Bioracer - you can spot them by their characteristic stripes on the shoulders.

Tony Martin has been using Bioracer almost exclusively since 2012… Wiggins rides them quite a bit and so does Cancellara. Smart’s skinsuits were the top tier, but now Bioracer is, and in a few years another one will come along probably by one of the two companies. Personally I’d take the Bioracer.

For a few years bioracer’s nice skinsuits weren’t sold to the public, it’s a long time coming that they are releasing them now.

Smart makes an awesome product that works better for some though; it’s whatever fits you best.

Also I raced a Castelli Body Paint 3.0 longsleeve last year, and although while waiting on the start it was super hot, once I got moving it was the coolest skinsuit I’d ever had, 40k’s in 30 degree weather were no problem. Only downside was the the mesh on the back gained some holes throughout the season. Never use pins on it, but if you can sew you can fix them

$1,873 ???

$1,873 ???

It gets better. Tony Martin supposedly burns through a Bioracer every race. The rough material on the seat ruins the suit.

If I remember correctly the Bioracers can be ordered as a custom sizing,… for about 1,500$. The good news is that you get 2 at that price. What a bargain!

Those bio racers were custom made individually. They are now mass produced and comparable in price to anything Castelli or Garneau puts out. I’m getting the Bio racer.

So, where can you buy a bioracer skinsuit?

Interesting and disappointing.

disappointing.

In what way? The magnitude of the difference? I have to say, I was quite pleased with my purchase.

What does CS stand for? Champion Systems?

Yes, sorry, I should have made that clear rather than just assume people would understand the acronym.

Andy, if converted to watts or time over a 40 km, how significant is a difference of .007 for CdA? I’m assuming you meant you were pleased with the aero benefit and not just how you looked in it?
