TT build advice

Hey all, I’m piecing together the parts for my first ever TT bike - I’ve done so much research but still not 100% sure of compatibility and whether or not I’m getting the most bang for my buck?

Appreciate any advice on the below build: Total Price $4,6,32 (AUD). Use case will primarily be for local sprints/olympics and 70.3s and the rare (maybe 1 every couple of years 140.6s)

Keen to know:

  • Any compatibility issues or just poor decisions

  • Any easy/cheap upgrades or downgrades

  • Missing any FUNDAMENTAL components?

Once I buy everything, plan is to have it professionally assembled by a shop who offer full build (hopefully they’ll let me watch - i’d love to learn, and im not comfortable doing things like brake installations, bleeding, cable cutting etc.)

I would get a fit before buying a frame and choosing crank length.

At that price point you should be able to add that in.

You don’t want to buy it all and find it isn’t optimal.

I don’t see a crankset. Also personally I wouldn’t skimp out on brake parts. Your choice of rotors seems highly questionable.
Rival chain? Really. Upgrade at least to a force. Red d1 cassette is cheaper, works, and weighs exactly the same as the new and more expensive e1.

Hey the crankset is the Magene P515 power meter (includes spider crankset and 165mm cranks)

Good point on the chain, will upgrade to Force and drop the cassette to D1! Thank you (will also look up better rotors)

Hey, I’ve actually just got a fit on my Giant TCR Advanced 1 and got the following measurements:

Inseam 81.5cm

Shoulder to wrist bone 53cm

Height 173cm

Seat Height

720

Tip of saddle to centre of bar

Centre of bars - 510

Centre of pads - 430

Saddle Setback

-4

Rider Stack and Reach

Reach 480

Stack to the centre of bar 650 and stack to the centre of pad 660

I then reached out to my fitter and the frame builder to confirm the geometry/size of the frame that would work for me and both said M would be fine (albeit would need another fitting to make some tweaks if necessary)

I would choose different tires. I don’t think the Pirellis are on anyone’s fast list.

If you want to make it cheaper, you could replace most SRAM stuff with LTWO RX TT groupset. But understand why you would want to stick with SRAM.

I use ZRACE and ZTTO rotors on all of our bikes. They are fine.

Paying $950 for brake calipers and levers is insane though. You can get TRPs for half that price or as @Diabolo said, an entire LTWOO groupset.

I built an aliexpress TT bike. I use mech hydraulic brake calipers with $10 levers. <$100 total. Brakes just fine. I just taped some blips on the base bars. I use a waxed YBN MK120 flattop chain and both ZRACE 10-36 XDR or a Goldix 10-28 XDR cassettes as needed. All shifts fine.

Personally, if I was doing your build, I would save money on the brake levers, cassette, and the rear derailleur (get a D1 rival), and then get a YBN chain as your race chain (train on the force), and upgrade the pedals to Favero.

Agree with both you and @Diabolo - I am hard set on having SRAM wireless blips though so my gearing will stay SRAM but I’ve reduced the rear derailleur to the D1 version and changed brakes to TRP TT Hydro HD-T910 - that drops the brake prices from $958 to $648 which is pretty significant.

Bring’s the total to $4,632 AUD (or £2,454) which I think is really good value so I might keep the cassette for now maybe

Wheeltop just released a new TT groupset. I have the gravel groupset, and it works well. I’ll probably do the TT groupset for my next bike.

Until you put your hands on the grips of the TRP…..then you would say, shit, i should have spend that couple of dollars extra. These TRP’s have the worst ergonomics.
Or of you want good but cheaper pick the Riderever Trivia brakes, solid stuff

Magene PM, did you donsome research??
