TSS via Garmin 255 - nonsensically high

Can anyone explain to me why my run TSS is so much higher since I started using this watch? (Garmin 255)

Every run I’ve done has been like 3-4X higher than what the anticipated TSS for that workout indicated. (53 vs 178). I’m doing the workouts exactly as indicated and not killing myself with pace or HR.

I’m guessing that my HR zones auto-configured by garmin are not aligned/accurate? It auto uploads to TrainingPeaks and I’m assuming there is something that I need to change in the Connect app or align in some other way.

Any insights are appreciated. Thanks!

Three different TSS types: “TSS” “rTSS” and “hrTSS”.

The “TSS” is nonsensically high. If you set the correct type in your run workouts in TrainingPeaks it should apply that to all future workouts.

afaik this is a bug that sometimes happens with new devices.

Thanks that was simple. I didnt even notice the arrow for a drop down next to TSS on TP until I looked….

Do you have run-specific power zones set up in TrainingPeaks? Garmin estimates run power very high, like double what a Stryd pod estimates, for example. If you use the “default” power zones for your bike zones, and your bike FTP is ~200 watts, a Garmin run in the 400 watt range would yield a tremendous amount of TSS.
