Well, I was able to put together a full Record 9 kit w/Ergo levers…someone who gets TSR will be quite happy. There are supposedly frames on the way to me…I have 3-4 people who need a decent bike…someone will get Record…the plan is to just send it and see what they think. I have already allocated 2 frames that were going to be sent to me - one built up with Ultegra 9, one Sora kit I may have on the way…and one will get the Record9 groupset…
Call me an asshole if you want (at times)…but I like this TSR gig…
I now know who will get the Record parts…no question. Now, I need some wheels…decent 9 speed wheels…I have everything but wheels…Shimano or Campy compatible will work…US Marine hurt ILO Duty…lets get this together for the guy eh?
"Thought I’d drop you a request for a friend. This is a long deal, but stay with me.
My friend Brian and his wife, Jan, are really great people, he sold me my current bike for basically nothing and really both of them go me into tri’s.
Jan is a physical therapist and has a Marine who was burned in a helicopter crash as a patient. They have been loaning a trainer and bike to this kid for the last few months so he could train for the Lakewood Valley Tri in Owensboro, KY. To give you an idea of his burn state, he couldn’t put a shirt on by himself so he had to ride shirtless and two fingers are fused.
I’m estatic to report he finished the tri (1/2 mi/15mi/5k) even though he wrecked and had to get the chain back on the chainring and with numerous lacerations to his skin grafts, he managed to finiosh unaided.
Unfortunately, Brian kind of needs his bike back eventually, and I guess the trianer but thats another issue, and the bike is too small for the Marine, J.P.
Was wondering if you came across a 58cm ish bike if you might consider contacting me? Doesn’t have to be fancy though some cross stlye brake levers would be good because he can’t really use the hoods position well. (if not ,I think we can get him hooked up w/ those)"
We all have parts that we dont use anymore…just sitting in our basements or garages. This tends to be good stuff, but not the latest stuff that we as bike geeks like to ride. Myself, I have a room full to the gills with “Crap” like Campy record and Chorus kits…that are (ghasp!) ONLY 9 SPEEDS!!! Well, I could sell the stuff, but the offers I was given to sell them were kinda low for me. The thing to do was give it away! I could feel good about giving the parts to someone who would really appreciate it, and use it - and not feel I was ripped off and under paid, or have someone feel they paid to much.
So far we have had one person get a bike who did their first 1/2IM and had an awesome time, he is going to do IMFL later this year on that bike. We have sent out pedals, shoes, handle bars, wheels and other items to people who can use them. Not “upgrade”, but rather get them on the road. I suppose I should not use the term “not upgrade” as a clipless pedal system, and better wheels are an upgrade…but in the end the recipient should have a greater level of enjoyment from the sport…with out feeling like a charity case. We are taking the things we dont need and giving them to people who can use them…cause I know sure as hell…I will never again use a Record 9 kit…

Edit: I just realized that any message would have gone to my Mr Jim account instead of this one, which Dan has returned to me. Send them back to Chip, he sent them to me in the first place for my commuter, I decided to go with spd on that bike so I can walk around grocery stores without falling on my @$$. Sorry they didn’t work for you. New thread idea, how many times can an item be TSRed before someone keeps it.
