I am debating selling my bike to get either a new Specialized Expert or Pro Transition. I am trying to find out how much is a reasonable price for the bike I would be selling…and I got a little shocked when the guy at the LBS thought my bike was worth about $500…that just seemed a bit on the low side.
Anyway, I am considering selling a Kestrel KM40 Airfoil-the last year it was still made as a one piece carbon frame; ultegra components, profile bars, Fir rims, and a set of Zipp 404 Tubulars (650c wheelsize).
If it is worth that little, I will just keep it; however, if I could get enough for it, I may try to sell it and use it to get a specialized. The bike is great, I just feel too stretched out on it and I find that during an IM, despite being fitted on it, my back is usually in knots by the end. I tend to be shorter torso and longer legs so that might be part of it. The bike frame is in pristine shape (absolutely no imperfections in the paint or carbon at all), the components are from another bike and are still in good shape, the zipp wheels are not the newer wheels but still light and in decent shape (I only used them for doing IM and a few 1/2 IM’s and no training on them). The bike is in great shape and haven’t ridden it in a few years as I mostly trained and raced on my road bike…it just felt more comfortable.
Any ideas on what it might be worth?
Right now there is a KM40 on ebay for $355 with 5 days left, and a set of 404 650c tubulars for $450. You’d probably be better off splitting them up to sell.

That isn’t the same frame…not that it will necessarily change it that much. It looks like I have either the 2003-2004 frame. This is a generic pic of it except mine has zipps, I haven’t taken any pictures of my bike yet. This is also the exact colors.

I agree with the other poster. Split them up and sell separately. There is a smaller market for 650 wheels these days, but the people who really do want them seem like they are willing to pay a little more for used Zipps because there are less of them out there. Definitely try eBay for the wheels and make it a long auction.
Generally a lbs will offer half of what they will sell it for, or a little less.
