Trump supporters: How do you defend this nonsense?

At the Univision town hall yesterday:

Q: Given the amount of the mounting evidence of climate change, do you still believe it’s a hoax?

Trump: I get awards environmental awards for the way I build it for the water, the way I use the water, the sand, the mixing of the sand and the water, I mean, many different, but I’ve had many awards over the years for environmental, the way I’ve built because you know about building, that’s what you do. It’s very important to me… The real global warming that we have to worry about is nuclear. The water is coming up an eighth of an inch over 300 years, the ocean is gonna rise and, you know, nobody knows if that’s true or not, but they’re worried about the ocean rising an eighth of an inch or a quarter of an inch in 300 years

Seriously.

Kamala HQ on X: “Q: I am a Republican, but no longer registered. I was disturbed by January 6. People from your own administration don’t support you. Your own Vice President doesn’t support you. So why would I want to support you? Trump: I totally disagree with Mike Pence for certifying the https://t.co/ttBjL6W8uQ” / X

He is insane.

I really don’t understand how anyone can defend the things he says, or the way he says them.

If you want to point out the negatives of the Democrats, Kamala and leftist ideology in general I can completely respect having that discussion. I have a lot of issues with those as well.

But how in the world can someone listen to Trump talk and say “that’s my guy”. I just don’t understand. He makes no sense whatsoever and watching him speak actually makes me cringe it’s so uncomfortable to watch.

The woman’s reaction when he says, “Ashley Babbitt was killed. Nobody was killed.”

And the man’s reaction when don-OLD says that January 6th was a day of peace and love, or whatever.

People know he’s nuts.

That I also don’t understand (my wife and I daily say “how can this election even be close?”) is why I posted this question. I’m going to start replying to the Trump supporters with a link to this topic to see if any of them are not PABs.

They don’t need to defend anything. As the cliche goes, it’s a feature not a bug. MAGAs don’t in general view comments like this as anything that needs to be defended, explained, or even minimized.

For most of the MAGAs I know, they are not paying close attention at all to Trump, Vance, or really anything the Rs are doing. They are too focused on Harris, Walz and the Ds.

But I agree with you that I can’t believe this election is even close. Is speaks to the dysfunction of not just American politics, but American culture writ large.

It’s called a dilemma. You have to choose between two bad options, and you choose what your perceive is the less damaging of the two.

I understand that. But Trump supporters are just that, supporters. They generally aren’t saying “look, I know he’s a piece of shit, a terrible leader and communicator, but I can no longer stand the corruption and dishonesty within the traditional D or R candidates, so, im voting to blow it all up, and vote trump.”

These people actually think he has good policies, is a strong leader, and sent by the Lord to save 'murica.

Maybe it’s worse now, but from the get go he’s largely spoke gibberish. It’s just one tenously linked thought after another. He’s always been prone to contradicting himself within one sentence, let alone 2 or 3.

Are the two bad options 1) admitting you were wrong in supporting Trump and 2) continuing to support Trump? I agree, but that wasn’t the question posed: “defend this nonsense.”

He spoke for an hour about stopping the steal. It took him about 10 seconds to say the part about “I know that you will go peacefully and patriotically”. He wants everyone to forget about the 59 minutes and 50 seconds that he talked about fighting and stopping the steal.

Well, to be fair, Trump was right about sea level rising 1/8th of an inch. He nailed that statistic. Totally nailed it. Minor correction: that’s the annual rise, not 300 years.

We learned that is called doing the weave. He does it brilliantly.

I’ll rephrase his question. How can anyone in their right mind think that the guy who tried to steal the election that he lost is the better of two bad options?

Eating a pizza with pineapple and being eaten alive by a shark are both bad options. I’m so tired of these false equivalences.

Here’s a thread on X about this word salad. Normally in a thread like this there would be a few MAGAts that would chime in to defend Trump, but not here. This one seems to be indefensible even by the die hards. Maybe Tyler can offer a defense?

That poster does not defend Trump. Ever. She is not serious. As she likes to say…

Honk honk.

Does Tyler even defend Trump? I thought he usually just went straight to whataboutism, but I mostly ignore him.

One quibble with Ron here. I don’t think that Trump thinks that he’s smarter than everyone else. I think Trump thinks that he can fool people into believing that he’s smarter than everyone else.

Idiots are fooled. The rest of us aren’t.
