Trouble running after knee scope

Its been 11 weeks and def thought I would have been running since my knee scope. Getting so aggravated!!! I had my plica shaved down and a minor chondroplasty in one small section. Doctor told me I should be able to run and he just said not to do the same work out every day if I ran. he also suggested I run every other day which I am okay with. I have done my exercises religiously and have been cycling since the second day. I really didn’t have any pain with the surgery and it solved my stabbing sensation. I’ve worked my weights back up to almost where I was, but when I try to run after three minutes I feel some pain on the lower edge near the incision and stop. It’s almost like my vmo isn’t firing and I have been trying work on that area a ton. I started using a TENS unit to help activate it. I assume it is still healing, but just disappointed because I hear tons of people are running 4-6 weeks after the scope. I was running 12 weeks after my ACL on my other leg. Am I just being too impatient? Has anyone else been through this. I guess I’m happy that I can at least cycle because that was something I couldn’t do for more than 15 minutes before the surgery. Any thoughts or help with the VMO?

Seadocha: Any updates from you on this. I am post 12 weeks and am basically exactly where you were in your post and have pain in same area when trying to run. Swimming and biking not a problem. Cannot tell if pain from meniscus or the invasion from the portals.

For both of you…I have had both knees scoped in the past. I ran on both exactly 2 weeks later. I will say, some pain existed on each for almost a year, but as the doctor told me there was no structural issues, I assumed (correctly) that it was just things settling down in there. Now at least 15 years later, my knees are better than ever! Hang in theorem, and have the surgeon confirm there is no structural issues, and run. Water running helped a LOT and I started that 2 days post surgery. Good luck to you both…

It took me 6 months to get back to running 3 days a week. Much longer than what I thought. Finally went to a PT about 3 months later and he said my leg was hyperextending when I walked. My quad was wasted, but I had been biking and lifting all the time. I couldn’t even lift the bar on the leg extension. My insurance approved a muscle stimulator (empi phoenix) and that got my quad firing after a couple/few weeks. My PT had me change up my lifting exercises and I took off from there.
