Trisuit: With or Without Pockets?

I’ve been looking at replacing my current trisuit and I’ve been noticing that a large number of suits do not have pockets. If you have a suit without pockets, where do you keep your gels? Most of my races are Olympic and one is Half-Iron, so I’d need to be able to carry a couple on the bike and one on the run. Should I look specifically for one with pockets, or is there an obvious solution that I’m not seeing?

Also, do any of the 2XU’s have pockets? I’d really like to try their suits, but that may be a limiting factos. I’m looking at the Elite level.

Thanks!

depending if you are going to be wearing the trisuit under a wetsuit or not, 2XU has 2 options:

the Endurance trisuit has 3 pockets, a front zipper and our endurance pad. it is designed to be worn under a wetsuit. retails for $110 and comes in 4 colors.

if you will wear it without a wetsuit, check out new Super Elite Endurance trisuit. it is designed to be very fast in the water, but also versatile enough to use in any distance race. it has a front zipper, endurance pad, and a covered rear pocket. comes in blue and retails for $275. check out the review on the main page that Jordan did recently, i think you will find it very useful.

also, just a side note, when i have used suits without pockets for short races, i put a gel up under the leg gripper at the bottom of the suit.

PM me if i can assist any further

Hey there,

The De Soto Forza Trisuits, has not only a pocket, it has 5-pockets, none of which you would know are there until you use them.

All for only $128.00.

for oly races there is no need to be using so many gels. on the bike if you really must have a gel you can tape it to the top tube, but most people just mix them into their bottles. on the run, you have to consume your 1 gel within the first 5-15 mins of the run anyway, because otherwise the gel won’t kick in and run its course before you finish (assuming 40-45 min 10km) so just hold it in your hand for the first couple of mins then eat and dispose.

For HIM many people tape the gels to their top tubes, or mix them into a concentrate in a bottle, and on the run it’s always possible to pull on a baggier tri top with pockets on the run. Pockets are a source of drag on the bike so it’s not a good idea.

Our pockets create no drag while on the bike. If they are empty it is like there are no pockets at all.

Desoto is great stuff. The pockets are tight and wont create drag like Emilio says and there bib shorts are unbeatable. They also have an ITU trisuit which has no pockets, but a great new pad. You can also stick the gels under the garmet on your thigh I see lots of cyclists do this.

Most skin suit pockets don’t cause drag. They’re set up not too, even most road skin suits come with pockets now.

Hi Emilio,

Any plans to expand the use of the pad in the new ITU suit to your other suits? I like the idea of an actual pad for longer distances. Any thoughts? Thanks.

yep, we do. This new pad is the real deal and we will be expanding it and the 400 mile pad too.
