Needing to add a second bts bottle for Roth. Has anyone tried the sl saddle cage? Currently using a wove bottle strap and gorilla cage but like the idea of easier entry of the tririg. Wondering if the standard saddle cage is any better? I’ll still use the straps for extra insurance.
Mine are collecting dust. They have zero “grab” to the bottle and even using my Wove bottle strap I lost a 750ml bottle one time. It’s probably ok for larger bottles where the strap is tensioned more but not ideal for anything below 800-1000ml. It’s a good idea, but not executed perfectly, and ideally would still apply a bit more grab to the bottle and not flex so much.
Both the standard kappa and standard kappa saddle have great grip strength. For any situation where there is any increased chance for ejection (bts, rear facing bta, etc), I wouldn’t hesitate to run the standard ones. SL don’t cover that use case in the same way.
I have two of the saddle sl cages. Entry and exit are very easy with them but they don’t have a lot of grab. I worry a little they would fly out on a big bump. I almost think TriRig should include some sort of rubber bands that once could add if you feel the need for more grip/clamp.
I like them… But a bit overpriced.
Thanks for the feedback!
I agree. I purchased when I saw posts from TR about how the Kappa didn’t need rubber bands/straps like their competitors. If I don’t use a band/Wove strap, I lose a bottle every time. But, I will say it is much less an arm workout to get the bottle out on the fly.
How do you have yours mounted? Vertically or horizontally?
I have them mounted horizontally. Bought it specifically since it was a “saddle” cage.
Oh yeah! They definitely be falling out horizontally. I have them more vertical and haven’t lost one on a ride but kicked one out getting on the bike once.
