Triple Bypass bike ride

Anyone doing the triple bypass ride this summer? I’m actually signed up for the double triple bypass. Should be a nice challenge since I live in OK and not too many mountains around the OKC area.

My hubby is doing the double Triple Bypass and a few other people from our club are doing the Triple Bypass. We’re in Colorado Springs so plenty of mountains for them to practice on.

Hi
We did it last year and we live at 500ft sea level
I would suggest 5/6 hour hard big gear rides back to back.
If you think your gone to spin up those Mountains it will take 10 hours to Finnish.
Than you start the next day in the rain and temp 39* with a 30 mile climb.
It was a great ride well supported.

It’s a really fun ride, but the weather can be a total wildcard. Make sure you start early (best to beat the inevitable afternoon thunderstorms) and dress appropriately. Be prepared to climb for hours at a time. The first day I find Loveland pass to be the hardest. It’s not the pass itself that’s tough, but the 24 miles from Idaho Springs to the base of Loveland that can wear you down.

I’m doing the double this year as well, and have done the Westbound route the past 3 years. Unless you’re seriously fit, training well really helps. For the rides I’ve done, my ride time has varied from 9:40 to 7:33.

get in miles, lots of miles, into the wind…

did it once, report…
Total time 10.5 hours, ride time 8.5 hours. That was just one-way, could not have contemplated starting back again the next day. However I was only training 20 bike miles a week, with no major hills, so that was probably sub-optimal.

So… did you find some hills to train on?It’s right around the corner…

Found the only hill in Oklahoma. Mt. Scott. Just kept riding up that mountain until blue in the face.

Make sure you have clothing for 80 degrees and sunny. But also be prepared for 30 degrees and sleet with 20 mph winds. I have done it 3 times and each time the weather has been freezing at some point.

Just came back from completing the double triple bypass in CO this past weekend. What a great ride that was and I highly recommend it to anyone. No doubt it was tough but worth all the pain. After day two in the saddle for 120 miles I got a new respect for the pros. We did the first 120miles in 7:48 saddle time and the next day came in at just under 9 hours. Both days had a mix of sun, rain, hot and cold.

Congratulations!

Well done! The weather was pretty cooperative this year which was nice.

I hear you about the pros. It’s unfathomable to me how they can actually race grand tours.
