I recently moved to New York City from northern California, and am trying to find training partners here outside of the super expensive clubs and teams (I work for a non-profit after all…). I’m 23, competed on my collegiate tri team, and am racing at the ITU Worlds in Las Vegas in two weeks. After that, I’ll be training for more long distance events, TBD.
If anyone has any advice, or is interested in training together please shoot me a message or reply to this thread.
I did try that, however most clubs are absurdly expensive to join. I’m more interested in knowing if there are other people out there who are already training on their own/bypassing the clubs route.
Now let’s get down to business… You don’t need training partners to make it here! What you need are racing partners. First thing I would recommend you do is join the New York Road Runners - that way you can participate in 20 or so run races throughout the year and automatically qualify for the NYC Marathon the year later. Next I would join the Century Road Cycling Association - that way you can participate in 15 or so bike races around Central Park every other weekend during the summer and hone your cycling skills and meet a lot of cyclists in the process. Next I would join the Manhattan Island Foundation - that way you can participate in 7 or so open swim races all around Manhattan and even qualify to race around Manhattan. You don’t need training partners, you need racing partners.
I’m 23 and living/training in the city also. I’m in Central Park either running or cycling almost every day. Drop me a pm or email me (elyafranko@gmail.com) and we can meet up
