One of my triathlete friends is traveling to NYC this summer (July) and she wants to buy a wetsuit. What are the best places to go for a deal on a good triathlon wetsuit. Thanks!
She wants to buy a wetsuit in NYC 3 months from now? She would save a lot of money shopping online (XTerra has great deals/ high quality) or just not shopping in NYC in general. If she doesn’t know her size and what not I could see why she would want to try them on, but NYC is not an ideal place to shop for a wetsuit.
That being said, to name a few, Jack Rabbit, SBR, R&A?, and a few others sell wetsuits.

Swim Bike Run NYC has a good selection on hand they are right near the Park on 58th street

Hey Marco,
Welcome to ST.
Wetsuits are probably the most personal Tri item one can purchase (although debatably the saddle may be first) so tell your friend to start looking, trying, swimming, testing, researching them NOW. I don’t understand why she has to buy a wetsuit in NYC and why she has to wait until July to buy it. Unless she thinks she will be losing weight from now until then. Been living in NYC for 17 years and have bought about six or seven wetsuits during that period and I have NEVER bought one from NYC before.

Toga on the UWS has wetsuits as well. Although, I prefer Jack Rabbit.
Make the small trip to Greenwich CT to TargeTraining. We carry 2XU, Nineteen, Zoot, and BlueSeventy. We are getting much more into Nineteen right now as the new suits are pretty fantastic. We have a rental program and you can try it out at Tods Point about 2.5 miles down the street where there is a nice area for an OWS.
I have no financial ties to the store, just affiliated by team.
I’m not sure R&A actually carries wetsuits in store anymore. I think they drop ship now so the customer gets a pristine suit instead of one that has been sitting in a warehouse and possibly damaged by too much handling. Call first.
Thanks guys for all the advise!
Jack Rabbit - 4 locations - Upper East, Upper West, Union Square and Brooklyn -

+1 for Jackrabbit. I am a regular shopper in their Brooklyn store but have been to two in Manhattan. Very welcoming and knowledgable salespeople, good customer service, and I think they have some sort of wetsuit rent-to-own program as well. www.jackrabbitsports.com
I have no affiliation with them, though they do sponsor the triathlon club of which I am a member.
Hop a train to Stamford, CT…
Pacific Swim Bike Run is within steps of the train station. Great new store with a variety of wetsuits in stock.

I’ve vote for these guys - their sister store in Westport was very helpful when I bought my last wetsuit.
I’ve not been fond of the service at SBR - the trip to TT is well worth the short train ride.

I actually just went up there and was really impressed with the shop, great selection of bikes, apparel and the cycle training room was really good as well. Very organized business
Go to swim bike run NYC if you wanted to be treated like you are lower then dog pooh and are about as smart as a bump on a log. Oh yeah and if you want to pay more then retail. Then that is the place to go.
I bought one from paragon sports on union sq, it’s the megastore of sports for NYC (by NYC standards). Don’t expect boutique service but they often have a good inventory. I’m not personally recommending them or anything but it’s an option if you’re in the city.

I had a really positive experience with SBR on 58th street. They have an endless pool so I was able to try and buy. Very satisfied with the fit. I waited till they had a sale and bought a midrange wetsuit. Good luck!
Like otheres have said, that’s an odd set of circumstances.
If you’re friend is in NJ, Ridgewood Cycle has a great selection. They will be carrying the new Huub suits soon, too.

i’m partial to JRab for obvious reasons, but that being said why the long wait on buying a wetsuit…i mean, is this person going biggest loser style this summer, or getting skin surgery or something?
I live in NYC…and JR is not all that great. They never have any deals and mark up their product like crazy. If I were you I would try on at JR and buy online…
There really aren’t any decent shops in NYC.
