I’m a Swede planning to spend next winter (november-february) in a warm and triathlon friendly place. Any tips? Have been thinking of Buenos Aires. Would be nice with a fairly inexpensive place, a city, with good opportunities for training. I would like to stay do most workouts with others so it would be good if there is a good club next door. Maybe there are some winter camps?
Clermont, Florida. Weather is GREAT - Lots of triathletes come down for the winter to train at the NTC. We have a great master’s swimming program with Coach Sara McLarty. Go to www.usantc.com
As far as I know, to ride in South America, you must like to ride dangerously…drivers are not very careful.
South Africa has become very popular over the past few years.
The whole southwest is good, from El Paso all the way to SoCal, although places at altitude get chilly at times (El Paso, Las Cruces for instance).
Tucson is a better choice but has occasional cold days. SoCal and Phoenix are too crowded in my opinion.
Then if you don’t mind the long trip, Australia and New Zealand, with a preference for NZ…colder but more courteous drivers. I lived on the Gold Coast, very popular for triathlons, but you’re a bloody target for drivers there.
Do you nordic ski? If I were you I would just stay home and ski like a mad-man all winter - nothing better for building all around aerobic fitness and strength for triathlon.
No skiing for me! Then I rather run and swim (and bike indoors). But the thing is that I like to get away and I like to see lots of sun! So, guess south USA could be a good choice. Will try to find a cheap way to live… close to good training opportunities. Have some friends in Berkely, would that be a good place?
