Triathlon Bar Grips Instead of Bar Tape?

After seeing the Ergon grips of Jan Frodenos bike, where could I find something like this? It just seems easier to deal with instead of bar tape. Take it off, clean it, put it back on instead of trying to do the perfect bar tape wrap. Maybe this is a new product category

Profile Design have been making aero grips for years in multiple colors, the Ergon offering is new. Fairly easy to get a hold of at any decent tri shop. If you can’t find them locally I am happy to ship you a set from my shop. www.hypercat.com, just shoot me a note.

I’ve been using ESI grips for a couple of seasons (www.esigrips.com) on my Tririg Alpha bars. I went with a pair of the Racer’s Edge and then cut them to fit just behind the brake levers. I don’t use anything on my extensions as they are the Zipp VukaShift. They are a tight fit, but once on they do not move.

I don’t see any Profile Design bar grips on their website. I can only find bar tape

I found this http://www.profile-design.com/...uble-durometer-grip/ but that’s for mountain bikes

I have them on my bike, just moved them over to my new bars and had to trim the two basebar ones to fit, but they work as expected and are plenty grippy.

Just google it - https://www.google.com/search?q=profile+design+aero+grip&rlz=1CAACAG_enUS616US616&oq=profile+design+aero+g&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j0l5.16679j0j7&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=93&ie=UTF-8

they are easy to find, I had them for a while - loved them. Not sure why I haven’t gone back actually…

I’ve had the profile design bar grips on my bike for 2 years. Didn’t like them at first, but I do now. I cut out a section so I could mount my garmin.

Too thick. I just want a very little bit of grip when sweaty and minor vibration isolation. I just keep mine bare with no tape other than some electrical tape at the bar end shifter.

I have never tried a bare bar, to be fair, but with long distances I take the comfort of vibration dampening myself. Can’t imagine it’s comfortable but obviously you like it and it works.

I didn’t think they were too much thicker than regular tape, but they never got slippery or anything - and were good in sweaty situations.

Had them, didn’t like them because limited where you could put your hands, but they were less slippery than wet than tape. Got them at the tri shop in Austin, Jack and Adam’s. Part of their standard inventory then - four years ago.

what kinda bars are those?

The ones that came on it. It’s a speed concept.

You can make a golf grip work as well. Golf Pride Tour Velvet Jumbo. Cut the top off the grip and then the bottom ~3". Basically cut it down to the minimum needed size and keep as much of what you use toward the top of the grip. It will expand over a 22.2 extension. Not going to lie, huge PITA to get on. I’ll take photos of mine tomorrow or the next day.

not what you are looking for but a general comment - I went to tennis racquet grip tape which is super thin and gets tacky when wet. the best part about it is that 3 rolls cost $5.

^^^^This.

Especially for the basebar where you need grip for braking/cornering, and you don’t want the larger profile sitting out in the wind.

Heat-shrink tubing?

As are the Profiles, especially if they need to install over cables too which stretches them even more.

Using hairspray or rubbing alcohol to lubricate them helps.

I’m not sure if you’re only referring to the extension grips or also the brake grips but Felt also make some nice grips for the latter, the’re called Tri tip grips.

In the past have also used dishwashing soap, as they slide and then when it dries acts more like glue.

Try tennis racket overgrips. Thin, cheap, and available in many colors:

Hope this helps!
