Triathlete Mag June Issue

Got it in the mail yesterday. The entire issue is pretty much a snoozer. The swimsuit layouts didn’t raise my heart rate at all. The ‘Tinley Talks’ feature was its normal disjointed stream of conscience with the standard grammar problems. (I noted at least two grammar errors in that article alone; doesn’t anyone proof the content in this publication?) The product reviews were fluffy advertisements, as always.

However, there is a FANTASTIC pic on page 202 - perhaps the best one I’ve ever seen in Triathlete. An absolute work of art. With a few more photos like that I might even renew my subscription. Thank you, Mr. Duke. Put that rabbit in front of me and I could break 2:30 for 26.2.

Yeah the “controversial” swimsuit stuff was lousy and about as edgy as a Redbook madazine. However, as always I enjoy Tinley’s articles, he always has an interesting perspectives… a nice change of pace.

I agree. The photos were pretty bland and boring, and not so well done. The photographer sure as hell isn’t Walter Iooss. Very unimaginative, and uninspired. They seem to be going through a phase lately with their photography where they find a new technique, such as the new softening of edges, and wear it the hell out. I like to see some new techniques, but they have page after page of the same effect, making me want to scream. One thing for sure, the few photogs they have out there doing all the tri stuff sure have a good gig going, and seem to be selling the same stuff to all the advertisers, and designers, making it all look the same. Ends up with no one standing out, and it all pretty damn boring. Wish someone would take a chance to distance from the crowd.

I think the shot of Andy Potts on pg 6 is interesting. Dude looks like a spuer villan.

The photo of the mustache-clad Dave Zabriskie on pg 81 totally creeps me out. That is not a good look for him - or anyone.

Do you think the guy on pg 149 is juiced?

By the way, the pic on pg 202 is really pleasant. Did I mention that previously?

202 is nice. The p149 guy is freaky??? Not sure that’s a good look to be selling to triathletes. I think he thought Weider owned this mag. Pretty scary hairdo…He kind of reminds me of Vince from wrestling in the plasticized look.

I noticed some grammer problems, and wondered the same thing. Pretty boring issue. I read the info on when to resume racing after a Half. I disagreed with it. I did a second half two weeks after the first and felt a LOT better doing the second one. That’s the second time I’ve had an awesome race one or two weeks after a Half. I didn’t find anything interesting in the coaching section.

The swimsuit pics. Well, I found the black girl attractive. Amanda looks good on 118. What I don’t like is that none of the chicks are triathletes. At least it doesn’t say they are. My question though, is this stuff that triathletes are supposed to wear during a race? Amanda’s suit on 118 would be very nice.

…why do male models look gay? p104

how weird, men buy playboy for the articles, and triathlete for the photos…

i cant get over that section on the aero position of that one guy (merging bike and body pg 34)… the before pic is outrageous… there is no way that guy honestly thought he was dialed in like that!!!

and the “one of the fastest bike splits” comment that went along with it?

chris

very edgy Fizik ad with Sam McGlone

better than any of the swimsuit pics.

I agree with bland and boring, and I disagree with the whole swimsuit issue concept, I think it’s stupid, although it does help pass the time on the crapper. First time I’ve seen the woman on pg. 130, Yvonne van Vlerken. She’s pretty hot. Call me kinky but IMO nothing is sexier than an ultrafit, muscular woman, and yes, I like those veins in her arms. The ad on the back cover of Desiree is interesting. Why take a beautiful woman and make her look like a cyborg, or better yet, like David Bowie in The Man Who Fell to Earth?

i love the look on her face in that ad!!!

If they wanted to be edgy, then they should have shown the massive tatto on Amanda’s leg. I saw her on the show LA Ink, and she got a whopper, covering the entire lower leg. That would have been hot…

And I have an issue with an article in either this issue or the last one, they came so close togehter I can’t remember. They had some guy that has the Guinness book of records for the most multi sport events, something like 250 to 300 I think. Give me a break, he would be hard pressed into getting into the top 5. Who researches those records anyway??? I know I have a couple hundred more than that, and all they have to do is look to their feature back page writer for another one over that amount. I bet Molina is also in the 400+ club, Kenny Glah, and quite a few others that raced like their lives depended on it…

Other than that, I enjoyed the 25th anniversary issue, lots of articles I could relate to in the history sections, and I’m never against pretty girls in a magazine. They were missing some great writing though in the latest issue, that Jay guy?? Wonder where he went, I really liked his stuff on races…

I agree with this 100% and have been saying that for a while. The photogs are trying to hide a lack of ability to shoot interesting and quality photos with “cutting edge” photoshop work.

These photographers are really pulling the wool over someone’s eyes. Awful.

Got a debate going here, so, I need another opinion. I told the person who pointed this out to me that she is crazy, but, maybe I am wrong.

Take a close look at the cover. Look at Amanda’s bikini bottoms. Look at Amanda’s left side (on your right as you are looking at the picture). Is she showing fur? I say it is a shadow, but, the woman who pointed it out to me insists that the bottoms were pulled down just enough to show fuz.

I think the guy with the guiness record was in the USAT magazine. I agree 250 seemed low. Funny thing, every time I race locally, that guy is at the races, calls himself captain America, races in an american flag speedo. I always thought he was just some weirdo, never realized he started the SWCS.

Mark, I totally agree about the article about the guy with the “most” races was a total joke.
We have a guy here, Ken Hale who is around 450, and it going for the 500th in 2010.
He goal is to get IMH his 500th, and he last lots of RD’s putting pressure on NAS/WTC to let
him in.

Arrgh, my mailing label was placed right over the most important part… I’ll have to investigate.

Glad you agree. What drives me nuts as well is the advertisers who hire these guys. Man, I see Proflie ads with someone on a bike at night, due to their lighting schemes, and the sweat that they are supposedly creating is running straight down! Their attention to reality and detail is insulting. Not to single out profile, because many do it…

No one is going to comment on the male model standing next to his P3C with a foot of spacers, a stem that angles way up and risers under his pads? Here looks like a typical case of, “this bike is so cool, I don’t care if it fits me right.” … Also, why did they choose Amanda’s worst picture for the cover?
