Triathlete featured on Amazing Race

They have team of triathletes, one of which was also on the last broadcast of IM Hawaii. The woman with the one leg and the prothetic. Interested in seeing how they do.

I figured she had the guts and determination.

Was disappointed to see her use her prosthetic as a reason to get a cab in China. She said it was an emergency and gestured to her leg. Also the team got to board a plane before the other teams secondary to her leg. That was considerate by the airlines, but I’d have thought she wouldn’t have taken any advantage based on her leg.

So, my opinion of her has been tainted by her obvious use of her leg to gain any kind of advantage she can. I expect to see her use it again. I no longer am rooting for her.

Agree completely. One of the housewives said it best “She can ‘run’ the Ironman but she can’t stand in line?”
edit: I just remembered they’re “single mothers” not “housewives.” I know there’s a big difference.

Why do you think the producers chose her over others ?

With the handicap of missing a leg for years, I say play the leg card and win that cash. I’m sure others on the show use any means possible to win. Women use their looks sometimes to get free drinks from drunk losers in bars, not a new concept : )

.

And a commonly-held opinion of them would be?..

Damn she is Hot! Maybe if I can get her drunk…

It bugged me at first too, when I saw her use that to board first. But then somebody on another thread said something like the people who are bugged by her doing that will also conveniently forget about it when it puts her at a disadvantage, such as climbing the rope ladder at the end. After looking at it this way, it doesn’t bug me at all.

It was the LEG (or lack thereof) that garnered her fame and got her on the show. You’d never have heard of her if she was just another Hawaii finisher…

Hello, its a race/game. People lie, steal other people taxis and intentionally mislead other competitors regularly on this show. The Survivor couple used their fame to their advantage. The hotties use their looks. Use whatever you have. The leg is far more of a disability than an advantage, she can’t afford to miss any opportunity for it to work for her.

EXACTLY !!!

I would have been disappointed if she didn’t use her leg to her advantage - this is not a tri, it’s a game !

We’re all free to look at this as we wish. Frankly, I think her leg, or lack of a leg, is less of a disability for her than say someone who is grossly overweight or out-of-shape. If she claims that at least part of her motivation to go on the show is to show the world that disabled people can overcome big challenges she might want to not play the leg card so soon, i.e. getting the cab. Also, why in the world would she need to get on a plane before everyone else? She’s not in a wheelchair. Getting on the plane earlier isn’t likely going to give her a leg up (pun intended) on the others. What it does is show that she’s willing to ask for or at least accept special treatment when it likely isn’t necessary.

This is so not the place to refer to lack of fitness as a disability.

What it does is show that she’s willing to ask for or at least accept special treatment when it likely isn’t necessary.

Its a GAME more than just a race. She’s playing it to her advantage, as well she should. Now if they would have hoisted her ass up the wall it would be a different story.

its a game, everyone on that show uses whatever advantage they can to win…

FWIW, the triathlete you mention is Sarah Reinertson. I had a chance to meet her at Wildflower where she raced and spoke on behalf of the Challenged Athletes Foundation. Very nice, friendly and down-to-earth person.

It is a game people to win a million.

How can anyone on this forum (unless that person has a disability) even comment on another person with a disability? ‘It’s not like she is in a wheelchair’…she has ONE leg for god’s sake??? You know, people complain about people being mean on this forum and they don’t want any part of it. That stuff doesn’t bother me. But, stupidity does. Next thing you guys will be ragging on Ricky Hoyt for not doing the Ironman himself. Look in the mirror and use that thing on your shoulders for something more than a hat rack.

And Brian should know about disabilities, his is debilitating. At the slightest intake of alcohol, his vision blurs and he becomes wildly beligerent and territorial…

Damn. I just laughed out loud. Work isn’t fun enough to laugh out loud so people know I am up to something else.

At least my hand wasn’t on fire…

My cousin is Tom of “the boyfriends” so I have to cheer against Sarah and disapprove of any way she uses her lack of a leg to her advantage.

She’s using all of her assets to race, even when one of those assets is a huge liability…I see nothing wrong with any of it…she’s a hard core competitor…even if not standing in line doesn’t get you ahead, it does ease the process…if you travel a lot, you would to…hell, don’t we all use our status with airlines to avoid lines and get on the bus before others…is there something wrong with that, too?

Ironman is a game/race as well. Although I am not sure of the “rules” on this show (don’t watch it), I would think someone would apply their own personal beliefs into anything they do in life. Not passing judgement on anyone hopefully but doing that says quite a bit about the person she is in life it seems. But that’s just the way I look at stuff.

oh get over yourself. don’t look down on her because she is trying to play every card she can. this woman overcomes more in her everyday life then some of us will in many years time.

“I’m no longer rooting for her”>that is just a shitty attitude and immature. it’s like she doesn’t play the game to your standards and you want to turn your nose up at her. it doesn’t matter that she is over coming one thing after another in the gmae. and apparently doesn’t matter that everyone else is using whatever they can to help them in the game. as KEJ says, use what you have, everyone else is.

did even you see her hoist herself up that rope? that in an of itself was amazing. i have no problems whatsoever in how she plays the game, she’s doing a hell of a job and I’m rooting for her.

Ironman is a game/race as well.

I don’t really think of IM as a “game”. Not in the way this show is.

Although I am not sure of the “rules” on this show (don’t watch it)

I think that means you’re not really qualified to comment on this.
