Anyone else have issue of zipper on their tri top rubbing raw spots on their chest during the run? I never really notice it during a race but I’ll hop in the shower afterwards and it’s like a wasp got after me and there will be a really bad raw spot from the zipper, extremely painful. This happens on both a one piece and just a top. Only way i’ve been able to keep this from happening was in a race where they handed out sponges and I’d keep one shoved in there.
I’ve had this issue bad with a B70 top, nothing helped. I have a 2xu top which body glide took care of (when I remember.)
Or, I have a host of others which don’t cause any issues. It was trial and error to find the ones I liked (highly recommend using the classifieds, buy a used one, take it out for a sbr session and see how you like it. If no good, resell! Works wonders)
Yup. It rubs so much that the if the race is long enough, I bleed from there and it hurts like a bear for days after.
Thing is, I don’t feel it during the race and I love how the suit fits so I keep wearing it. At one point I even sent it back to the mfr and they sewed a little patch on their for me. Didn’t help one bit. But I still love it and would still buy another one.
I’ve never had a problem with this training or racing. My race one piece doesn’t have any zippers though. I usually wear TYR singlets to train… No issues.
I have the same problem with my Garmin HR strap. I put a piece of athletic tape on before running and I have no issues. Don’t know if you’re juts talking about a a small spot or the whole length of the zipper, but maybe some strategically placed pieces of tape will help. FWIW, I wore tape under my HR strap for a HIM last month without any problems.
Trust me, I’ve done this too and end up with multiple hot/bleeding spots. Multiple tops so I’ll keep trying a variety of things including just taking a sponge I can pour cold water on at the aid stations. I love when they hand out cold sponges anyway, wish more races would do it.

Are you putting your top on inside out?
I never had this problem. If your jersey moves enough to chafe you that extensively perhaps it’s too large. They’re supposed to fit like a second skin. I’ll occasionally get some abrasions from the piece of fabric that the zipper is sewn into just above my crotchal region, but it’s impossible to get a 1-piece suit that fits my chest (large) and my hips (tiny).
Regardless, here’s a solution: back-zip Kiwami. Once you go “back”…
I had this problem with the bottom of the full zip rubbing on my stomach. I’ve actually switched to an Under Armour Heatgear sleeveless top which I find to be cooler than wearing no top when it’s wet, and has no zipper to rub (also solved nipple chafing issues).
I had this problem, too. I got it at the very top of the zipper. The sewing or whatever chafed. It wasn’t horribly painful during the race, but I noticed it. A cold sponge shoved down the top worked great, but looked ridiculous in photos.
I made sure to cut any loose strings or excess material, then I body glided the hell out of it. Worked pretty well.
