Tri-Specific Adventure Race (1)

Consider putting this race on your calendar this summer!!!

**Background: **New version of the old “Two-Day Tango” with shorter (more realistic) distances. Now called the Brookville YMCA’s Millcreek Adventure Race. This race is perfect for triathletes with its swim/bike/run emphasis, with a little kayaking and very basic orienteering thrown in.

Location: Brookville, PA (West-central PA along Interstate 80)

Date: June 9th, 2012

Divisions: Solo; “Complete” (2 perople doing entire race together); Relay (up to 6 people)

Short Description: 8 mile run; 2 mile swim; 28 mile bike; 12 mile canoe/kayak; 11 mile orienteer (map & compass); 9.5 mile run.

Detailed Description:
8 mile Run is all dirt roads and trails… rolling-to-hilly terrain.** **
2 mile Swim in the Clarion River; fins encouraged; wetsuit encouraged; current is negligible.
28 mile Bike is primarily paved roads with some hard-packed “tar-and-chip.” Either mountain bikes or road bikes are fine; puncture-resistant tires may be advisable on Road Bikes. Several big climbs.
12 mile Canoe/Kayak in the Clarion River through scenic Cook Forest State Park
11 mile Orienteering through State Gamelands; very basic map-and-compass to find checkpoints in the woods. Follows a trail by a stream (Millcreek) virtually the entire way.
9.5 mile Run: to the finish!!! Back roads; very hilly.

I’ve been doing this race for years and it is awesome. The scenery and location are beautiful, with the chance of seeing plenty of wildlife… Eagles, deer, bear, beavers, etc. I spent a lot of years doing triathlons and this was a new and fun way to step into a little different kind of challenge.
