And here is another one off of someone that all but you Fla peeps would remember…The pic dose not do her justice, and she had one hell of a swim/bike combo…

Z you missed 2 for Shannon Delaney. Murph will never forgive you!

OK Monty, do you want to take this one or should I?

You are correct - Shannon was on two covers, but it’s the same picture!! They just changed the color of her swimsuit. She did sign both of them for me!

I have this one in my collection - Signed by her! I sent is all the way downunder a few years ago and had her sign it for me! Z

Mike’s Cyclery was Lill’s big sponsor. If only she would have told her agent to turn that rental car in instead of leaving it in the airport parking lot!

The Spring tour in Florida - USAT Tampa Bay and Ft. Lauderdale and then up to Gulf Coast. It was great to have the California crowd come to Florida to battle the local Floridians - Bruce Silvano, Steve Griffith, Lill, Carleen Crowell and Jeff Cuddebeck.

Z,

Is it raining in Central Florida? You’ve got too much time on your hands! But I appreciate you doing the research for me. Do you have all of the 2008 covers autographed yet? If not, let me know, I’ve got most of them and extras of a few.

Did you see the story about Clermont this month? I’m looking to come back soon.

Hope all is well,

Brad -

No rain this week in Florida - Weather was perfect for IM Florida and is expected to be the same for Clearwater this weekend. Now is the time to come down to Clermont!

Great Article about the NTC in this months Tri. Mag - Thank You! Come down anytime to train. Your always welcome!

I’m took a few Tri Mags to Kona and got them signed. Will take some to Clearwater this weekend for some more signatures!

Here is the first from 1988.

Here is the second one from 1989. It’s a different shot (albeit from the same perspective) with a different bike, but yeah, the swimsuit doesn’t look real.

And also from the 1989 issue is the following photo from an article about the “First Official Unofficial U.S. Triathlon Contingent to the People’s Republic of China”. Kudos if you can correctly identify both triathletes in this photo. Both names are familiar to this group.

And finally one more single-cover triathlete. One of the great smiles ever. I’ll bet some of you hosers from the Great White North even know her.

Hey that one’s really cool - I love the goggles!

That’s Emilio on the left, and the good looking guy with great position on the right escapes me right now…(-; IF anyone has an extra copy of that issue, I would gladly trade you for something cool, or money…

That was my race that I put on there by the way, first triathlon ever in China, and we just made it before the Tianmean Square disaster, and the country closed down for over a decade…

U da Man, Tom! Don’t let anything happen to that one! Nice thread you started. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. It’s been fun going through these old mags.

Monty,
I am sure I have that issue tucked away in a rather big box with most of the issues from both Triathlon and Triathlete magazines in the 80’s. Send me an email.

Cool, thanks for the extra history. I got you covered on the extra copy of that issue. Check my profile for the email link, send me a mailing address, and I’ll put one in the mail. No charge.

Is that Tony Richardson monty ?

I know he raced that race

No. Tony was not there, Emilio and I were the only pros there… I was sporting my new QR 80 degree, 650c wheel bike…ANd Emilio and I both had the new, super cool profile triangle bars…They were a lot of metal, but had a good position on them, much better than the Scott DH bars that started the whole movement…There were only 28 people in the race, about 14 Chinese. There were no triathletes there, so they sent their olympic runners, cyclists, and swimmers. They literally unpacked 30 lb bikes a couple days before the race, to race on. I brought over wetsuits, the swim was in a 48 degree river, fresh water. I had to make the course go along the shoreline, so that everyone could self rescue every 100 yds or so. Coldest water I ever swam in, and I was fully outfitted with my 5mm suit and hood. The could just bit right through the wetsuit, and one Chinese swimmer did it with no wetsuit. He had to get out every 50 yds or so, shiver a bit, then jump back in and sprint for another 30 seconds. It was a pretty tough group…

Monty,

If you want a real trip down memory lane, come by our office. We have every issue – all 25 years. Bring a six-pack (or twelve) and you can spend all day looking at them. Some of the ads are classic. Can you say “day-glo”?
