Tri bikes vs. the Shick Quattro Titanium 9000

So I had this funny realization today while watching tv. I always have loved the evolution of shaving razors over the years. Especially the Schick lineup. We all know nothing has changed with the razor in the last 5 years, however the new product development and the marketing is amazing! First 2 blades, then 3, then 4, the diamond and titanium blades, then chrome, then disposable, then thing vibrates! Then they get Federer, Woods, and Henry to market the stuff… Their current lineup is amazing and sort of reminded me of tri bikes and tons
of other equipment we buy. Now now, don’t take that literally, their have been improvements in the bike over the last few years, and huge improvements in the last 10, but I thought it funny that in my mind the two resembled each other. After all, they do business, and businesses exist to make money. Let’s all remember that. These two pictues look very similar huh?

Ummm. I think that most if not all but one of those razors are Gillette’s though

Er, if you love the schick lineup so much why have you posted a picture with a load of gillette razors and talked about the gillette marketing campaign (woods, federer etc)?

beat me to it!

The funny thing is I am a sucker for both. I buy those new razors about once a month, usually because it looks cool or because of some zooty commercial I saw. I also have a thing for King of Shaves shave cream- not sure how that relates to bikes though…

King of Shaves is good stuff…but it’s a better analogy with that assos stuff for your butt
.

Maybe Cervelo should start selling razors as well. The triathlon and cycling market is big on razors to shave our various parts.

C’mon how many of you Cervelo owners out there would buy a Cervelo razor to shave your legs? Especially with a fancy carbon fiber handle. Or how about a Zipp 4 blade carbon fiber razor?

Or how about a Zipp 4 blade carbon fiber razor?

Zipp SmoothaQuad?

This post reminded me of this article from The Onion.

lol

“Fuck everything, we’re doing five blades”
.

I know which one I’m buying (damn marketing ploys)!

Am I the only guy left who still uses the one on the far left? But then again, I use a dish and brush for lather. I hate canned foam, what a colossal waste

The funny thing is…not long after the Onion wrote that (like within weeks) , the razor peeps DID come out with five blades.

question then is do the ones with the 4 or more blades shave faster? closer? or can the argument be made that its still the engine ?

I use the one on the left as well–but of course the bike I ride most is a 1983 steel framed Trek.

Shave smarter, not harder. It still comes back to the engine ultimately though.

Nope. I use the one on the left, too. Luckily, I only have to shave about every 5 days or so. A blades last me ~2 months (but I probably go a little longer than I should).

Dimpled or non?

if the bike amalgam is to fit, I’d need a straight razor, a mountain razor, a 5 blade, a fixed blade, and a commuter.

Finally a topic that I have expertise in. I’m doubly cursed by having a thick, dark beard and thin skin. I should shave every day, but if I did, my face would be a bloody mess. I have 1, 2, and 5 in my shaving kit at the moment (along with a Braun self-cleaning electric). The difference between the Sensor (#1) and Mach 3 (#2) is actually worth a try. With a good Mach 3 blade, I could actually shave everyday if I wanted to. 3 blades to 4 is not much different, slightly better. Plus the Mach 3 blades are cheaper now that they’ve got the 4 bladed ones. If you notice, I think the biggest difference is from the mounting point of the head. The Sensor makes you move your hand perpendicular to your face, whereas the Mach 3 style is much more perpendicular. I think it makes a difference.

We are talking about shaving our faces, right? Does Gillette still send out razors on your 18th birthday? That’s how I got my Sensor (wow, I’m getting old).

Getting to your point, I think any competitive market is going to look largely the same from the outside. Just look at some of our other gear. What’s the difference between running shoes, wetsuits, energy drinks, etc, etc? There are differences between products, but rarely are they revolutionary or the would dominate the market and there wouldn’t be any alternatives.
