Tri bike shoes - specialized vs shimano

which is better?

I really like the new white specialized tri shoes. They are very light and allow and have great ventilation. The strap is short so it does not get caught in the wheels when getting ready for dismount.

That is 'kida a Ford vs. Chevy type question, but if you are fishing for opinions, I like Specialized ones better (and I own both if that helps your internet opinion poll/advice)

I found the Shimano shoes to be easier to get in to, but I think the Specialized are better as “real” bike shoes. I’d equate the Shimano’s to those tri-specific Nike Kukinis. The Specialized are like real racing flats. Hope that makes sense…

I have the TR02’s and and the Specialized Tri-vent. I never wear the Shimano’s anymore. The fit is much better for me with the Specialized, and they don’t take much longer to get into.

Hi Jason,

Any toughts or experience with the Louis Garneau tri carbon shoe. Got a sale on Nytro.com and would like to hear from the experts if the size fits great.

Thanks, Marcos

Specialized & Shimano shoes really seem to be a cut above. I like LG clothing and helmets. But I think those are the two things they do best. I haven’t heard bad things about the shoe, but certainly they are lower on the totem pole than either the Specialized or the Shimano. The Nike T-Speed is another very popular shoe with a great carbon sole and well made upper. The DMT shoe is also very nice.

I notice the difference with a carbon sole. I wouldn’t buy a shoe without one. Shoes are one area where I think it makes no sense to try to save money. Shoes and saddles. Always buy the best of those two things, that’s my feeling.

Thanks, I totally agree with you. The price is close to Shimano and Specialized, as per you I shouldn’t but I’ll try one, let’s see and I tell you!

Thanks, cheers, Marcos.

Ihave the TR1s, and I like them, but I wish the Specialized had come out before I bought mine. They look like a better cycling shoe. I love the siilvered sole.

I wear the Specialized…I never put my socks on in T1, the shoes are great for wet feet. Great venting, easy to put on. It has a carbon sole, very stiff…I don’t have experience with Shimano but I’d by Specialized again…

I bought the Shimano Tr-02 this fall and ended up selling them to buy the specialized trivents. There is no comparison, the specialized BG are designed to fit and function properly with your feet, and it’s almost like they have a built in orthotic in them. The shimano shoes look nice, and are built well, but they just don’t have the same ergonomic design as the BGs. After you try the trivents, shimanos feel like you’re wearing Kleenex boxes on your feet.

I bought both and gave the Shimano away. The Specialized are more comfortable shoes for my feet and also better ventilated.
