Tri bike envy

So here’s the thing-- I have tri bike envy. I ride my little road bike with the seat shoved forward and aero-bars stuck on the front and do pretty well-- but I really want a sleek aerodynamic tri bike. I have been saving my pennies waiting to find the perfect one. The '05 Tequilo is beginning to go on sale but I don’t know if I should hold out for a more expensive bike ie Cervelo?? (I don’t think I will ever be able to devote thousands and thousands toward my ride)And I made the mistake of going to the Quintana roo website and viewing their new bikes for '06. After waiting this long to pull the trigger, I want to get the most bang for my buck, you know? Any advice?

I had the same problem. Then I bought the '05 Tequilo at about 25% off. I thought about it. I paid $1634.00 for a 10 speed Ultegra Tri bike with Look pedals. I figured that the groupset and wheels bought alone would run about $1200. That meant I was getting a tri-frame with carbon seatstays and a nice carbon fork, plus good pedals, for $400. I couldn’t justify holding out for another bike. Consider that I could have saved a little longer and bought a P2k or one of the '06 Roos. With the only real difference being the frame, I felt that the few seconds faster a P2k or new Roo frame might be is not worth the 500+ dollars it would cost me. When It comes to aerodynamics, the frame is one of smallest factors. The key is if the frame gets you in a good aero position.

The '05 Tequilo is a great ride and i’d suggest it to anyone that it fits. The only major change in the new Roos is the addition of an aero seatpost. And depending on who you believe, the benefits of an aero seatpost are debatable. Hell, 1600 for Ult 10 and a good aero frame with some carbon thrown in is a good deal.

I’m very happy with my ride and I feel like a got a huge bang for the buck.

No matter what bike you buy and for how much, the bike envy never goes away. There will always be someone with a nice or newer model bike. Or there will be someone with nicer components, wheels and on and on and on. Eventually you just have to be happy with what you have.

Buy the Tquilo!

I got that same bike… just waiting for it to be delivered. I agree, its a great deal… and I’ll be sure to tell all when I finally get to ride it (hopefully next week).

Bike envy doens’t go away but it does diminish depending on what you get…

I have a nice bike… a very nice bike… a nice set of race wheels… Carbon this, carbon that… decent component group… I’d say more people look at my bike and have envy of it, then I look at others and envy there’s but there are still the Ti 6.4 compared to my 2.5 and the Dura-Ace compared to my mixed Ultegra / FSA groupo… All in all though two years later I’m still happy with my expensive ride and can’t imagine purchasing another for years to come… Even though I wish I could…
