Tri bike computer - suggestions

So I order my Felt b 12 and it’s on a boat in the ocean and won’t be here till march. So I have some time to pick out accessories for my bike. I need help getting a nice wireless computer with cadance and the normal bells and whistles. Any suggestions on brands. I wanted to keep the price around $100 max.
Any thing else you would recommend like water bottle set ups or storage bags. I already maxed out my budget on the bike so I need to be picky on what I get to put on the bike and keep it aero.
Thanks.

Cateye Double Wireless is about $100, depending where you get it. Stem-mount which is key on a tri bike.

For cheap bottle setups - I recently set up a standard bottle cage on my aerobar extensions. Total cost was less than $20 including the bottle cage, a handful of zipties and a bottle. Here’s the link to my blog post w/pics. I use a Profile Razor bottle on the downtube, but you could use a standard bottle cage to save a few bucks.

I also skipped the rear bottle carrier entirely (with two other bottles, its not necessary, IMHO). For a saddlebag, I use the Xlab Mini Bag, I can fit 1 tube, 2 co2’s, an inflator, patch kit and inflator in the bag. Scrunches up nice and small between the saddle rails.

Actually, if you are setting up a tri bike (not just a TT bike), you want your computer wrist-mounted, i.e., you want a watch with speed and cadence sensors. The Polar S725x falls in this category and is top-notch, also comes with a foot pod for running speed, splits, pace, distance etc. However, you would have to look long and hard to find it under $100. A reasonable price is more like $240. (MSRP is around $360.)

So let me start all over again: CatEye is hard to beat, either the new Vectra or the Double Wireless.

Another Cateye fan… simple, cheap, reliable. Won’t do your taxes for you, but then there’s less to go wrong.

I have to say that no only is that a brilliant idea, but it’s a job very well done. In fact, I think that may be the perfect race-day solution to purchasing an aero drink or similar. How is it holding up? Can you get at the bottle while aero without hassle?

Rhane -

Thanks. I’ve tried a number of different setups (Profile AeroDrink bottles, various rear carriers) over the years and this is the best. Simple, cheap and rock solid. The day after I set it up, I rode the front half of the Oceanside 70.3 course. Those that know it know that the section on the old airport runway after leaving the Las Pulgas gate is extremely bumpy (big concrete seams and rutted pavement). The bottle was fine…didn’t really move at all. Also keep in mind that when I’m in the aerobars my hands cup the top of the bottle so there is really very little danger of the bottle bouncing out.

Drinking while in the aero bars is no problem. I can slide the bottle out and replace it with one hand while keeping my other arm on the arm rest. I wouldn’t do it on a tricky descent or anything, but on the flats it’s fine.

JP - I’ve been trying to figure out the best solution for my tri bike and this looks like it. I have to say, you on onto something. What gave you the idea?

so can someone list the computer model they use or a link to them. Again I don’t need anything fancy other then wireless and cadence and normal speed stats.

Rhane - I’d love to take the credit  But there was a thread here a while back that gave me the idea. Search ‘how to mount a bottle on aerobar extensions’, I think that’s how I found it. My internet is crawling right now or I’d find the link for you.

You said $100 max. I work for Polar, with that said, the CS100B comes without the transmitter, which an be added later if you wish. The CS100 is complete with the t-belt. The CS200 is above the $100 price point
