I really like the TYR transition backpack for big races/traveling http://www.tyr.com/shop/convoy-transition-backpack-24132.html It has plenty of space, sturdy construction and well organized.
If its a local race, I just use one of those cheap drawstring bags you get free at most races.
Not familiar with the GYST bag, but $224 seems pricey for a tri bag–or maybe Im too cheap.
Thanks so much! Yeah >$200 sounds like a lot, but the bag looked great (good compartments). A friend of mine uses that bag, swears by it. I’m also looking at TYR; another nice bag.
I looked at a lot of them and went with the Tyr Transition. I find it too large for casual local use but it is nice for travel races. Lots of compartments for stuff but using them is sometimes a pain in respect to getting to them on the inside but I suspect this is the case with similar bags. Separate lined wet wetsuit compartment is really nice as well for sweaty stinky race togs. I have the Gyst Backpack 2-10 and duffle 1-10. I love how compact the 2-10 it is and fits everything I need for a race or OWS sessions. The duffle I use for gym and bike sessions. I got both for a very good price during a sale last year and have been using them since. Have nothing bad to say about them especially for the price I paid for both.
Use a gym bag. Tri bags are proof that some people will buy anything marketed to triathletes.
I just use a Speedo swim bag. Mine finally getting some tears after about 4 years of regular use. It was a real trooper. It as good straps and waist strap so you can ride with it when needed, plus a large mesh storage section at the bottom for wet ot stinky items, 2 pocket for water bottles and multiple storage compartments, plus a segregated section inside the main compartment that you can put shoes in. There are also loops you can clip things on to. I don;t thikn it was too expensive. Defnitely cheaper than the tri specific bags and I use it 99% of the time for swimming or going to the gym anyway.

I’ve been using an ll bean duffle I’ve had for over 20 years, even fits my aero helmet in the case inside it…
But man I have a serious backpack problem and after seeing that tyr convoy I think I need it. Has nothing to do with tri and everything to do with the fact it’s a sexy backpack, especially in the white… I’m drooling right now as I try not to add it to the cart.
I don’t even have a suitcase I only use backpacks.
Take a look at the Ogio Endurance Series Bags. I’ve got the 9.0, my wife has the 8.0. They hold a ton of stuff and have several compartments designed for the various junk we carry around!
I think I got ours off Amazon for a pretty good price, much better than the retail.
I have a Blue Seventy one that I really like.

Link should work now, and I agree, love my Blue Seventy bag.
I have the TYR transition bag. It is a bit bulky for my small frame (5’3", 112 lbs) but it fits everything I need and more. I also like the fact that it can be unzipped all the way down both sides. This helps with finding things.
TYR Convoy Transition bag is the best bag I have ever had. It holds everything you could ever need for a race.
Check out the Desoto Tri bag. Thing is indestructible and carries everything. Plus the company service is second to none.

Stay away from the Rudy Project Big Bag. Mine fell apart. Now I Just use a very large rolling duffel bag. You can get everything in there and you’re not paying the premium because it has been called a “Tri Bag”.
I’ve got the TYR transition bag, but I’m not a big fan. I find that it’s an awkward size to pack in the car and is probably more complicated than it needs to be. I think there are 5 straps to attach the helmet to the bag. There are no less than 13 pockets. And the black colour makes is nearly impossible to find things in the dark.
I use the OGIO 9.0, and love it! High quality, a little pricey but if you look you can find great deals, I paid $80.00 for mine.

+1
I kind of agree that Tri bags are really just overpriced backpacks bought by tri-bags. That said, I like my Desoto bag that I bought years ago. The mesh compartment for wet stuff is nice.
I just got a Nike backpack (excess swag from a friend who coaches a D1 team), it has a pocket for a soccer ball. I haven’t tried stuffing my aero helmet in, but I think it will fit. If only it had a mesh compartment…
