Trek Gen 1 Speed concept vs Gen 2

Have a line on a cheap sub $1,000 speed concept in my size, but was wondering how much its giving up to gen 2?

Also how much can fit in the gen 1 draft box? looks substantially smaller then the gen 2

The Gen2, while still not the easiest bike on the planet to wrench, is light years easier than the Gen1. Everything about the Gen1 was a pain in the ass to work on.

Aerodynamics wise the differences will probably range from hardly noticeable to immeasurable.

I think I got one of the first Gen2 SC’s back in August 2013. I posted this after I built it up. I was wrong about the draftbox bumping out of its bracket. It’s pretty secure in there. The draftbox on the Gen1 was a piece of shit. The new one is bigger, more functional, and way better designed.

I love the changes they made to the bike.

Thank god they changed that awful wedge seat post setup from the previous SC. The new seat post setup is much, much easier to deal with the more standard rear mounted seat post clamp.I like the pitch dial on the seat post.Way easier to run cables than the previous SC, my snafu aside.Fork is beefier.Front brake setup and assembly is identical to the previous SC.Rear brake setup and assembly is much improved. The ability to center the brakes without having to take the whole damn thing apart is a welcome change.I love the new stem/bar/extension system. Way, way, way easier to assemble, maintain and adjust. The Di2 battery integration is very cool. I also love how easy it is to charge the battery and whatever else we will be able to do with the new control box thingie (thingie is a technical term, right?) in regard to firmware updates and customization. The bike is unbelievably clean with Di2. There isn’t a wire or cable visible anywhere with the exception of the tiny Di2 wires that connect to the FD and RD. The previous SC did a great job of this but the new SC does it even better. The new FD and RD hangers should prove less troublesome.I’m not sure I’m 100% sold on the new draft box setup. It’s way better than the previous version (which while very functional still sucked). It seems like a good bump is going to jar it loose from the bracket it slides into. Maybe I’ll be wrong about that. The new box is much larger to make it more useful. The Speed Fin/Rear Brake Cover looks like something waiting to be broken. Hopefully, I’m wrong on that too.The only thing I dislike is there’s nowhere to put (or hide) the new Di2-90XX control box thingie. It’s much larger than the Di2-79XX control box thingie which was very slim. Not sure what to do with this thing.
