Trek Equinox 9

I’ve been looking hard a P2k which I was going to get mailorder, then my LBS gave me a price on this bike which just blew me away. This is the new 2005 model and the frame looks an awful lot like the P2k. The Trek website isn’t real forthcoming with anything other than basic component spec and geometry. There’s virtually nothing about the frame whatsoever. They call it a ZR 9000 and it’s aluminum. That’s all I know.

Does anyone out there have any knowledge or know where I can learn anything about this frame. Horizontal/adjustable rear dropout? Internal cable routing? etc. etc.

Thanks,

Bob C.

that trek sure looks a lot nicer than what they had out in previous years.

looking at the pic definetely no internal cable routing, rear wheel is definetely not a horizontal dropout which might make it tough to get that wheel in sometimes and you can’t adjust the gap. Head tube looks nice and short

That being said the frame looks pretty sweet and the fork is the same Advanced Composites fork that comes on the P3 and the P2k I think.

Damn that Bontrager crank is really nice looking…

If it’s that much cheaper, go for it.
You won’t be sorry either way.

Bob, I don’t know squat about your question, I just had to tell you that “psycholist” is a great name! Good luck with your decision.

I have been searching for geometry and specs for this bike also - no luck for me.

They’re on the Trek website

www.trekbikes.com

go to roadbikes, then time trial/triathlon, then triathlon.

I have been looking for the geometry and specs of the 2005 bikes, on the website this information is not available - unless I am missing it.

hey - thanks.

I also was considering a Trek over a Cervelo. The Equinox bikes have greatly improved this year. The Dual and Equinox 7 are the same price in Canada for 2005.

I am leaning on the Trek because Cervelo is focusing their marketing efforts and dealer support OUTSIDE Canada. My LBS dropped Cervelo and the biggest bike store in BC - Bike Barn in Penticton is said to be dropping the Cervelo line. This says a lot. Trek and Specialized are easy to get in Canada. Only a hand full of stores in Canada carry Cervelo.

As much as I’d like to support a Canadian success story, I’ll be buying a Trek!

finding a cervelo looks to be an issue in my neck of the woods also. both LBS in my area have dropped cervelo. Both owners sighting that cervelo wanted too much up front for inventory. IN addition to a huge number of bikes on hand. That really sucks. I really was leaning cervelo but now not so much. seems with the popularity and increase of pub that this may be an issue. But i know nothing about the bike bizz.

It seems Cervelo’s success might be making some shop owners change bike lines due to lack of availability. At least, that’s what a shop owner told me. They now sell GURU instead. Still Canadian, still very good bikes, GURU has the edge on paint schemes offered. Anyway, he just couldn’t get enough Cervelo’s to serve his customer base well…and this speaks well of the Cervelo line. OTOH, I don’t know of any GURU owners that are displeased with their bikes. Seems the Great White North is the site of some very good bike creations!
