Treadmill & Stepdown Transformer

Was hoping someone could lend me an assist. I recently moved from the US to Italy and brought my True PS100 treadmill with me. I know that I need to use a 220 to 110 stepdown transformer to use, but I’m unsure what wattage I need to use to operate it safely. I’m scared to death I’m going to fry it by not using the correct one. The only sticker that I see that might be of use on the machine shows a rating of 120V, 60 Hz, 15A. I appreciate any help.

Well, the super quick electrical engineering analysis is that you need a transformer that can handle 1,800 watts. On the input side, that would be 220V and ~8A. Probably anything rated 2,000W or higher is good to go.

Contact the manufacturer and ask them for recommendations. In addition to the voltage you need to know the frequency; the US is 120VAC 60hz, Italy is 230VAC 50Hz. Hopefully your treadmill can accommodate either voltage and frequency.

Good luck.

Definitely a question for the manufacturer.

Yeah I’ve reached out to True on their website and after not receiving any response, I reached out to them via social media. I haven’t recieved a response ot either. I can’t locate a rep overseas to contact either.

Thank-you for the response. We have a 2,000 watt that the base lends out to us while we’re stationed here. Just while I have you, is there any downside if I wanted to be safe and purchase a 3,000 watt transformer? I’ll stop bugging you after that. Thanks again.

No harm at all in buying higher capacity. It just costs more because it has heavier grade internals. But, it behaves exactly the same for lighter loads.

The frequency difference is almost certainly a non-issue. I am pretty sure that the treadmill power supply immediately converts the input to DC and probably does not use the line frequency for any kind of syncing.

This is close if you can find one

Google this to shop for one in your area

international ac to ac transformer 2000w

You really should be going 20% over so 2250 watt would be ideal
.

Grainger is a good resource:

Internal likely has it’s on AC to DC converter, so not super sensitive to input voltages or frequency variations.
