Treadmill in Unfinished Basement?

HI all,

Anyone put in a treadmill in an unfinished basement? Specifically, wondering what you did with the electrical? I plan on finishing the basement in a couple of years, but just got a treadmill so need to put in an outlet down there and a new 20amp breaker, just wondering what the best way to do it is and how to secure the outlet to the concrete.

Thanks!

Why do you want to secure the outlet to concrete?

You’ll find lots of stuff on youtube with regards to mounting etc.

Figured it had to be secured somehow. Either concrete or the ceiling joists.

I would install the outlet on a stud closest to the treadmill. If the treadmill is closest to a poured or cinder block wall, then install the outlet in a metal electrical box and run metal conduit up the wall with strap anchors. Then, just run the romex through the joists as usual. Anchor the metal electrical box and conduit straps to the wall with concrete anchors. Some of my favorites are Tapcon screws.

I wouldn’t secure it to anything.

That’s a fire or electrocution waiting to happen.

Maybe a bit too involved, but I’d frame a small wall, say 48 inches wide, and secure a proper junction box/wiring to one of these studs. Leave this as a framed wall, no drywall. An added benefit is that you could mount a TV to the studs.

I would just run the romex over or under the ceiling joists and let the outlet hang down (or nail it in place if you feel the need). Don’t drill through anything if you can help it.

I would just use an extension cord until I had it finished :D.

When I got an outlet for my stove I saw other options for outlet boxes not intended to go in walls. I can’t find the link online, but the following link is close enough to what I’m talking about. I think it should be GFCI in a basement too.

my basement has concrete on the back walls, framing side and front. It was simple enough to put the outlet on one of the studs and run conduit, so far no fires or electrocutions…
If it has to be on concrete then as e38 says, use anchors to mount the box and conduit…
