Treadmill hill run vs flat cadence run

Maybe I am overthinking this but:

My treadmill’s easiest run program includes 7% grade hills. I simply cannot do this while keeping the same speed and cadence I normally run. Is it better to still include hills at a slower pace and at what point does running at lower pace impact my race pace? I am worried that if I get used to running 2-4km/h slower it will stay with me when I run on flat ground.

Sooo you’re concerned that you are running slower on hills then on flats?

Just re-read that for a second and i think you’ll figure out the answer.

I’m worried about psychological adaptation to a slower cadence and speed. Most of my races are done on dead flat ground. So is it still benefic for me to train with hills?

Yes.

I think it is absolutely better to keep hill traing in , along with the faster paced flat running. It employs different muscles and othe areas of muscles worked during flat running. Not sure about what point the slower running impacts race pace. I always find when I am pushing harder up a hill when I get to the crest I seem to be lighter on my feet and able to keep a little better pace. These are not long hills or mountains though. probably only 2 - 3 minutes to get up them.

sigh. This place is not the same without Paulo. He would know exactly what to say in times like these.

You can alway’s paste it and send Paulo a email. Might get him started up again.

that would be like wrapping your own christmas presents and then acting surprised on Christmas morning. No, it’s better to wait for the real thing.

Yeah the thread would be more fun too cause it would turn into 10 pages of people trying to understand him lol

Different muscles, or just the same muscles though through a different (greater) range of motion and with greater force? I imagine having to use your hip flexors more, but I can’t understand how new muscles are recruited.

Might be right that other muscles are not used but it sure seems like it or just works the weaker muscles more making you think you worked different muscles. However way, you most likely agree with me hill training while running is as beneficial to your running as is hill climbing is for your bike.

you’re right, hill climbing is good for running as is for biking, but then you had to muck up your comment with all that stuff about muscle usage.

Yes sometimes eric I just dont know when to shut up. Just ask my wife.
