I’m looking for a treadmill to stand up to some higher mileage running at a quicker pace. Marathon or half marathon training. Tempo pace for me is above 6min/mile, and it’s not uncommon for me to have long sessions, say 9-12km of work, at that pace. Plus 4-5 km warm up and cool down on either end at 8mphish. Intervals I’d be doing in the mid to high 11s. Long runs would be 2-2.5 hours, so no time limit would also be nice.
I’d be using the tread for workouts, long runs in winter. Roads here get pretty narrow and slippy, so most of my quality work. It’d probably be looking at 90-100km in the winter (my workouts, and maybe the odd easy run + my partner doing the odd 60 minutes at 8mph pace) and maybe more (if I had to do full mileage inside) say if we get lots of pollen or smoke in the air.
I know a lot of people on here like the sole f80/85. One of the local treadmill shops has suggested I go more commercial, like the landice L10, which is a 5 AC motor. They do go up to 15mph but I’d have to get a 220V to plug it into, which I don’t really want to do. They do have a 120V version which goes up to 12.5mph.
I’ve had friends recommend the nordictracks (1750 or 2950) but I’m worried about the customer service/horror stories I’ve read here/on reddit. My friends have older versions of the 1750 mostly. I’ve been looking at lifespans as well, the non folding ones like the 6000i or 7000i. Both have AC motors. The 6000i goes up to 13.5 mph.
My question is, as a small person (120lbs) is the Landice L10 overkill? I know a lot of people on here are happy with the L7/8 and the fact that it changes speeds quickly and their warranties. The L10 doesn’t come with a residential warranty which also makes me hesitant.
I’m willing to shell out the money for a Landice, but wonder if I’d be equally happy with something less expensive.
Anyone get this kind of usage out of their cheaper treads?
i own a tt8, f80, nordic trac 2450 and many others over the years. the f80 changes speed soooooo slow same with incline, f80 is much slower to adjust than a tt8, but the tt8 and f80 both have the stupid speed and incline controls that go from 6,7,9,11 it is super annoying. if sole is a good deal like it is for us in Utah only buy the tt8 dont touch the f80
I like the 2450 the best i hear good things about the 1750 too.
the annoying thing with the 2450 is it makes you click out of ifit every-time before you start, it basically begs you to pay them monthly…
Thanks, yea, I’ve looked at the TT8/a kind friend of mine has been letting me borrow her new one for a few workouts so I can keep training in spite of our current pandemic gym closures/winter weather situation. It does look good on paper/has good specs.
I really want to like it, I just kind of dread running on the thing to be honest. The paces are off a good 15-20s per km, it doesn’t hit the advertised top speed (it only goes to 3:20s instead of 3:05s…so maybe it is actually hitting the top speed, but just doesn’t read it that way), makes my feet numb about 45 minutes into workouts and feels like you’re running uphill always. And the fan issue. Working out on it is like an exercise in mental toughness for me hahaha. (what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger I guess??). I’ve run a lot on treads at the gym in the past, I usually enjoy it with a good playlist so idk, maybe my expectations are just too high?
Everyone else seems to like the Sole so maybe I’m just nuts. There’s also a used f80 for sale near me that I’m going to go try just for comparison - It might just be that my friends floor is slanted or something like that (I measured the deck with my iphone level, which suggests it’s not but how accurate is that anyway?). But we’ll see how the folding decks do at higher speeds.
I’m also a little concerned that I talked to their customer service and they can’t tell me what kind of motor is in the Canadian version (or rather they said every treadmill model they have is AC, which is suspicious).
Ah yea the speed buttons on the tt8 are annoying. I think it goes like 7, 9, 12 or something for higher ranges. The up button gets you up there pretty quick, but it’s not precise and agreed the belt takes awhile to catch up.
how much have you run on your 2450? Do you do longer workouts/faster stuff on it?
Someone on this forum said there is a way to disable the iFit popups, you could probably find it on Youtube…
The 2450 is new I do t have a ton of experience. The tt8 was my go to for a few years and except for intervals it was great. I also have a true form nonmotroized that I love so for some intervals I use it.
I have a office and a home gym, and I setup my home gym so my buddies will train with me. Plus when I converted a welding outlet to a duplex 120 I wired It wrong and ruined a few… and I bought some cheap stuff early on. Plus if I see something shiny I buy it and sell something else…
I just did a workout on my friends new 2450 with a few hill efforts. Last one was 2 minutes at 10% grade and 10.5mph. Handled it well. I find the same treadmills that struggle with faster and longer running really struggle with fast hills but this one definitely seemed solid.
The tt8 is probably strong enough to do the same intervals as a 2450. And in utah we get them at the warehouse for 1200$ or something like that new.
It’s the speed buttons and incline buttons on the sole tt8 that are the main difference in a bad way, from a 2450.
The f80 and the tt8 are two diff machines. I would never tell a serious runner to buy a f80.
Tt8 to go 7.7 mph is hit 6 mph button then hit up like 17 times or whatever…
Despite what’s been said about the NordicTrac 1750 it’s been a reliable and critical tool for me for winters, for the past 6 years. It’s easy to service and maintain yourself, and I’ve never had an issue with service/support. During winter marathon training I’ve run it the same kpw as you, with no snags in higher speeds.
I have an old precor commercial that does 15 off 110 volts. It’s bombproof and has a really nice deck cushion. It cost me $500 used and was a horse to move, plus you need tall ceilings. A used commercial would be a great bet for you perhaps.

I tried a Sole F80 or F85 at a local sporting goods store, and the speed changes were way too slow for my taste. I do a lot of interval work.
I ended up getting a Landice L7, which has been fantastic. The speed and incline changes are very quick, and you can program intervals directly into the machine (interval time, incline, and speed). The speed is also pretty accurate (I also use an external speed monitor).
I live in a sales tax state and was able to avoid paying taxes by getting a prescription for the treadmill from my cardiologist.
I concur with previous poster, the Landice L7 is THE machine to get for a fast runner especially someone who is not that big. Someone larger maybe would feel more comfortable on the L8 but the L7 is plenty big for most. I’ve had mine 10 years and it has been flawless —the run quality is impeccable and like previous poster said speed stages are near instantaneous.
Landice has a lifetime warranty on parts, not that you’re really ever need that. Nobody has ever said a bad thing about the L7, it’s an incredibly solid machine.
Is yours a newer model? I have a couple marathoner friends with older models who say the same of the 1750 - solid, does it’s job, never fails them. But they all have like circa 5-7 years ago 1750s with no fancy console.
That sounds like a fun set up! Maybe I’ll do the same eventually… except I’ll have to convince my partner to turn the whole basement into a gym so I can have the girls…I’m sure he’ll understand right?
110V and 15mph, that’s pretty awesome! Harder to come across the used models in Canada, but I’ll keep an eye out. We don’t seem to have the same big fitness brokers/resellers as in the states. I guess if I find something that’s a good fit and that cheap though, it could be worth the cost to bring it across the border.

You in Ontario? I live near Buffalo and get stuff shipped here sometimes for Canadian friends. Buffalo Athletic Club was selling a bunch of Life Fitness units last year for 500. I decided to replace the belt on mine and wax the deck, but it wasn’t really needed. The units will display total hours, me be had a ton but it is insanely overbuilt.
hahaah gotta find me a cardiologist I guess. Being able to program the intervals seems like a pretty big plus. Does it let you program longer than 20 minutes, do you know? A lot of machines only let you do 20 minutes worth of intervals lol
