Anybody train with power as a guide, if so how do you train ie interval, steady state, every session, only sometimes, etc. Does it produce improvements for you over using heart rate as a guide. I have read a bunch about it yet I wanted to hear responses from someone using power as a guide.
lotsa informtion available at …

The first six articles are core …
http://lists.topica.com/lists/wattage/read is a group discussing the above.
it’s advisable to do the reading first though. The list can be very cranky when folks ask a bunch of questions that are covered in the ‘required’ reading
After reading through that, if you have more questions, or need help setting up a training plan using wattage, contact Mike Plumb at www.tripower.org
I train with power on every ride, Mike sets up specific interval sessions based on testing that we do, and training with power (for me) really benefits my performance
.
I find training with a power meter helps much beyond workouts being prescribed by power. Near the end of a long ride you can see the results of your fatigue by a loss of power. HR doesn’t always reflect this. Also, when climbing hills, one can see where the wattage spikes and then drops at the top of the hill. By reversing this trend, hill climbing can be accomplished faster and with more efficiency. You can have great confidence if you know your sustainable power and you are cycling into the wind or on a hilly course. Your competiors may zoom by but as long as you know that you must cycle x watts to feel a certain way at the end of a ride then you can let them go with confidence.
Thanks everyone boy that site has information overload if you want it. Just what I was looking for, thanks
