Got a diagnosis of bronchitis, really severe cold and cough and feeling really fatigued. Can’t get any sort of quality workout in so have to take time off. Anyone have any experience with this? I want to get back as soon as possible but I don’t want to try to start working out too soon and make it worse. Been 3 days off so far and no change. Consecutive off days is a painful thing!! Any advice on how to know when it’s time to start training again?
I had bronchitis a few years ago; it progressed to pneumonia.
When the cold + cough + fatigue are gone you can probably train again
Don’t do it. You are probably on a Z-Pack right? It takes 5 days of pills, but 10 days to fully take affect. Do not exert too much effort. Do not run. A light swim for 1000 yards is fine at half effort to keep the crap coming up. Keep popping the mucinex DM if the doctor says it’s ok (helps keep you from the drowning feeling). If you bike, stay on the trainer and keep the legs spinning but keep the heart rate low. No excursion!!
If you do too much too soon, you will waste about 3 months. Sure you can train, but the quality will be horrible and the gains will be insignificant at best.
It would be better to back off the food so you don’t gain weight, swim a bit, bike a bit, go to bed early, sleep in a little more.
It’s called the “neck check”. Any symptoms below the neck: STOP and do not train. Wait until they clear up.
