Is it just me or does anyone else find it odd that training platforms like Strava and Training Peaks send you your year in review stats before the year is actually over.
December is pretty much set to be my biggest month of training for the year (I have a race early Feb, and was extremely lazy for the first 6 months) so yeah that won’t be reflected at all.
I don’t really get why these things don’t come out early Jan to actually cover an entire 12 months.
Strava’s updates each time you check it so just do it on Jan 1 if it means that much. IMO people typically do their yearly reflections before the new year actually takes place so it doesn’t seem horribly out of place, plus it matched around the time that Spotify does their yearly recap so it lines up with the largest online cultural recap that I see people participating in, likely boosting participation in December on the app as well
I thought that same thing but as I’ve seen many posts on Facebook from athletes sharing their “2024 Year End Results” and it appears to be a wicked smart marketing tool.
Free viral marketing for Strava by friends of people that may not be familiar with Strava (I have not seen a post from Training Peaks) or on the fence to subscribing.
Spotify started it a few years ago with their “Wrapped” bullshit, which dropped the first week of December
I didn’t realize at the time that I’d completely fuck up the algorithm by putting on lo-fi or chill dub playlists when I went to bed, then have them loop for 4 or 6 hours until I woke up again, or my earbuds lost power
I play choral music at bedtime - I’m now a top 100 listener of the Latvian State Orchestra…
Christmas to New Years is filled with no work, no school, etc. it’s probably a low week for “most” people so those days don’t matter much for your total.
Unless you’re “behind” trying to get to a number.
No work and no school means a lot more time to train!
For the few on this forum - I agree. For most - its time to deal with kids etc…
Yeah, I always think the same thing.
It does appear that Strava continues to accumulate, so just wait until Jan 1 to look at it.
Spotify does not, so once the wrapped is available, that’s it.
I’m not completely sure for Untappd, but think it might stop counting as well once it is released…I didn’t save my screenshot from earlier in the month.
I actually didn’t know Training Peaks did one
I drink a lot less beer since I stopped using Untappd a few years ago
Chasing every new release available to me, piling up the badges & so on, was getting to be too much
In fact, one of the first things my therapist & I addressed, to which she said “you don’t have a drinking issue; you have a competition issue”
I’ve posted my OWN definition here & there before
I think it was Warren Zevon that said: “An alcoholic knows* exactly* how much there is to drink in the house and precisely how long it will last”
I always figure that if I fail* that* test, I’m good
But there’s another thread for that (many, in fact)
I drink a lot less regardless of Untappd.
My thing is trying something new, so I like using it to see if I’ve ever had it before and where. A lot of times it invokes a memory, like Oh I had this at that bar in San Diego a few years ago or something like that.
But I do get the competition part of it for sure…
