Is it worth starting a training plan this far into the season?
I am a mid 2:30 Olympic finisher who hasn’t improved much in the past 1.5 years (probably due to not having a plan). I just generally make up workouts as I go along.
I do about five swim sessions a week (7 hours), 5 runs a week (4 hours), and 3 bikes (2 hours). Given those numbers can someone recommend a plan to start?
Thanks.
YES!! Start NOW as it will prepare you for a better season next year. Honestly and to make is extrememly simple, go buy Joe Friel’s book “The Triathlete’s Training Bible”, and then, take the time to set up your own Annual Training Plan. It will take some time at the beginning to understand what it going on, but once you get the hang of it, it will come more easily. Now, in my second year of using the ATP and with the little experience I do have, I am seeing more gains because I took the time to set up the plan. Once you get the hang of it, I usually plan the following week on Sundays, and then consult the weekly plan on that day only as I took the time at the beginning of the week to collect my thoughts and think about what I exactly need to train on. (I am also married with 3 kids so time is valuable to me).
As we say in the military, if you fail to plan, then you plan to fail.
Good luck
yes, unless you are insane. “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different result”
