Training peaks plans (1)

What plans are you guys using for IM? Or should I go a different route?

If you are a TP user it’s pretty hard to beat the preloaded plans that you can tweak all you want (and use again when you want). The tradeoff is price as buying that person’s book would be 25% of the cost. Everyone has an IM plan on there, but $800 for Siri? No thanks. I’m a fan of Matt Fitzgerald and have one of his 70.3 plans. A few marathon plans too buy some people that were cheap, like $15-20.

I used the grant plan last year but couldn’t hit all my volume due to a foot injury. Just started using the same plan again for Placid this year. Prob just gonna stay with it since it’s paid for. Was just looking for a plan for my wife and got me thinking what everyone else is using. Thanks for the feedback.

Thinking about buying my first TP plan for an olympic this summer. Could you answer some questions for me?

What if I have questions on the plan? Say I don’t understand a term or acronym or something recurring. Is there someone I can ask? Or are things usually explained clearly in the plan?

Can I reuse the plan again next year? Or is it a 1 shot deal? (I won’t be upgrading to premium if that makes a difference)

Any other advice on buying plans through TP?

Some of the plans include the authors email if you have questions. Not sure how they respond as I’ve never tried to contact them. Most of the D3 plans have good explanations within the workout and they also give you access to the workout explanations on their website. All plans can be reused but some are tailored to certain races.
You get what you pay for so in most cases a plan that is $100 is gonna be more detailed than a plan that is $10.

Some coaches, like myself, build plans for athletes for their key races, taking account their lifestyle, travel, needs, background, HR/power zones and develop plans in 4 week blocks… every 4 weeks you get a call with the coach to evaluate how training is going, upcoming events, then build another 4 weeks till the race. The communication isn’t as much as it would be if you were paying the full coaching price… but you still get communication with a coach and something tailored for you.
