Want to get any coaches opinions here, or just TP users in general.
Currently all the athletes that I coach are on basic accounts, I have found this to be fine. With the new pricing structure, do you feel it would be worth it to have all your athletes on a “premium” account? What are your thoughts?
Athletes with premium accounts (with coaches): Have you found it more beneficial to use a premium account rather than a basic account?
All my athletes are given premium accounts. It helps me educate them about specific issues with any session and the performance management chart can make it easier for me to quantify their data. I think premium accounts are a benefit when it comes to analysis, especially with power data. I can also sync client files between WKO and TP.
In my experience, with a more robust training log, premium account users almost always upload their data within a few hours of completing each session. That’s really important to me
All of our clients get premium accounts. I think it’s good for them to be able to see their PMC, workout segments… and I agree that it could be an incentive to upload data.
With Garmin Connect being messed up, I have some gaps in data this week. But they still enter manually. It’s motivating to see the workout “turn green” and not see it “red”. It’s funny, but a very simple thing like that can make a difference. I know it does for me in my own workouts. I’m not sure if clients get the red/yellow/green a basic account.
Also some of my clients are on 2 week or 4 week intervals with getting their workouts (yes I know this is controversial)… as such, they get the flexibility of making small adjustments and moving things around if needed. I think that’s limited on a basic account.
I have a coach that uses Training Peaks but I only use a basic account. I will express some lack of knowledge how the deal works on the coaches end so if my comments seem out of place chalk it up to basically only seeing my end of the interface.
I used a premium trial before the recent beta upgrade but just didn’t find value in what was offered. I was getting the workouts sent to me, uploading all the data and getting enough of a log from that such that the upgraded charts, advance scheduling etc. were all things that I felt I was either getting from the coach (he has my workouts scheduled in 4 week blocks ahead of time that I can see) or thought I should have been. For example, I didn’t feel the need to pore over the PMC because I was paying my coach to take the feedback (by data or comments) and adjust timing, intensity etc. of workouts depending on what he saw in the information he had.

All input welcome here. Thanks.
All my clients have premium. Its with premium you get what you need imo, unless you want to use another software like Golden Cheetah as well. Which would be very tedious.
Coached athlete with a premium account. I like seeing the data (if nothing else just being able to see splits). On the couple of times I went “unstructured” for a month or so and my coach turned my premium account off I paid for the account myself because I missed having the features.
It’s motivating to see the workout “turn green” and not see it “red”.
FWIW as an athlete “compliance” coloration is one of two things I hate the most about the new training peaks. I can see how a coach might like it, but I know if I have done the workout as prescribed - I don’t need the color to tell me. I would rather have the different workouts colored by type so I can tell at a glance what is on the docket. The other thing that I hate now is printing of scheduled workouts. Sorry for the hijack - carry on.

I like it as an athlete. I find my clients like it. But I could see how you might dislike it too.
For some reason I was thinking that there was an option to color the workout types. I’ll take a look.
Workouts are colored in the new app but it’s a bit different. The sport icon is colored as opposed to the whole activity in the calendar in the Classic app.
As far as I am concerned the only benefit for me is the instance update via email. That’s nice. Beyond that, the benefits are for the athlete only and I don’t think those benefits are much.
I personally don’t live by the pmc. And I remind athletes that it is my job to deal with data, their job is to train but I am happy to share anything they want. It takes 30" to do a screen shot and send an email. I prefer that because it stimulates a conversation. Plus it saves me $100 a month.
For coaches it is really more of a value add to the athletes. They get calendar sync which a lot of athletes like, while most don’t understand the charts at first most do like to understand what is happening and elevation correction is a nice feature.
As far as I know, that is correct. As Rodney mentioned, i think the only benefit to me is getting the emails when they log something. Otherwise all the benefits are to the client, which is why I am not really interested in subsidizing it via my costs.
