Training Mask for Asthma

Has anyone, with asthma, used a training mask to increase capacity/efficiency? I am curious if it would help strengthen the inspiratory muscles to decrease the airway restriction.

Im 32 M, life long asthma sufferer, very controlled, had 5+ years of allergy shots (which absolutely work). I know my asthma is a limiter in upper limit workouts and quick recovery. Any input appreciated.

look it up for yourself. Training masks are a gimmick. They do nothing to increase lung capacity.

Do you think breathing through a straw for long stretches would help you breath better? It won’t and neither will this mask. For me, my asthma always gets better as I get more fit, by just running, biking, swimming.

Agreed the mask is worthless at best and may trigger an attack at worst.
There is some evidence that a power breathe might make a small difference. I tried one and my asthma sounds similar to yours. My times did not get faster but I had A placebo feeling of better clearer breathing while running. It a lot of investment for little no reward.
The wet breathing sound while using the power breathe is a passion killer before bed.

Why not just induce an asthma attack and then go train with that “natural” bronchoconstriction?

Kidding…

I don’t think the training mask does anything. Just train harder and raise the threshold for wheezing and you’ll feel better racing.

My asthma is very controlled as well, but I cannot do any hard efforts until at least 45 minutes into a workout. Nothing seems to help this issue, just feel lucky to do what I can do.

They are about as effective as hypoxic lap swimming. Just send me your $75 and I’ll burn it for you.
