Training injury ? Help I am running out of time

12 weeks ago I thought I had an IT band problem. After 2 months found out that my hips were tweaked and that was causing the problem. Also had hurt where my quad insertion was. Here is the problem I need help with…I am doing IMCDA in 31 days. My swimming is good. I have done 7 centuries with a 120 on sat. So bike is good. I have replaced all my run training on the eliptical.Done 2 1/2 and 3hr workouts on the eliptical. I have done 2 6 mile runs but pain is in my hip. Dr says its from the adjustment and should disapper. My goal is to not walk. Can I do most of training on an eliptical and still make it? I do not want to bag this. As I get in running,do I build up to the week before on the run.? Try to get as far as possible. Would 1 16 miler be enough? I am trying to break 12hrs for the first time(I know slow for a lot of you)I would only need to hold a 10min mile pace. Before the injury a half mary was 1:44… Example of last weekend 1hr run with 1 and1/2 hr eliptal when pain started to return. Any suggestions would help. Also,if I go to race and pain begins to persist,I will bag it than risk injury. I am just holding out till the end to throw in the towel. Thanks Ken

You need a doctor that it’s going to fix it. Have you tried Active Release Techniques? I can help informing you about that. I get great success with ITBand problems. Let me know

I am seeing a Doctor. For lack of a better term,my hips were put back in place. Now that they are not tweaked I can start running without any IT band problems. Actually there were no actual IT band problem,it just appeared to be as a symptom of the hips being torqued at an angle. The right hip is sore when running because of the new position. My question is "is it still a reasonable goal to run the mearathon, albeit slow,by doing all my training on an eliptcal? I probably will only be able to get in a couple of weeks of actual running. Have been using release on my right TFL…It helps.

Most of my patients have had good luck with pool running. Some ran incredible after being in the pool for 2 months, without any impact. have you tried that? Maybe a combo of both… I think this is one of those things that will be hard to predict. You will have to wait and see how it feels. It is realy hard to tell if you will be ok for the marathon, I mean it also depends on what kind of running background you have and all that. sorry I am not more helpful… Can you run at all NOW? How much? But still with pain in the hip right?

I ran Sunday 6 miles. I tried it with the lift taken out of the shoe. Seemed to make it worse. So now they gave me a 5mm lift to try. My right leg is 11mm short so my hip “was” at an angle and twisted sideways a little. Now it is straight with no twist. However the right side has to adjust to the new position. When I run the foot strike is whats causing the problem. TFL is tight and hurts kind of where the hip flexor is. Told thats where a lot of attachments are. They think this is where the pain is…It is getting better and beleive I will be running by the race. Was wondering if all this eliptical has been a viable replacement?

I think if you do the elliptical pain free, it should be a viable replacement. Not as good as the pool but still good. I was just concerned that you are getting the best care you can right now. I have a 10mm short leg myself, I know how frustrating that can be.
